Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Vestibulum a ipsum. Ut volutpat, tellus ac ultricies sollicitudin, dui nunc consectetuer ligula, et mattis urna lacus at arcu. Fusce velit augue, laoreet vel, gravida in, elementum varius, lectus. Nullam elit dolor, placerat sed, molestie ut, feugiat ut, urna. And so it goes… greeked up text, or lipsum, whatever you want to call it, is an important part of a designer’s toolkit. Placeholder text so the client will look a the overall design instead of getting tunnel vision and killing a whole project because they don’t like the way a phrase is worded. But what’s the best way to get the text to use?

For occasional use in straight HTML documents by hand coders, you can visit the online Lipsum Generator. It also has a little history of lipsum, which is interesting and worth a read. If you use dreamweaver, you may want to try one of the dreamweaver extensions available. (I particularly like Corporate MumboJumbo and Celestial Technobabble, but the Lorem and More one is pretty cool, too).

Of course, if you’re working with dynamic sites, you might want a more flexible option that can be used programatically. If you work in ColdFusion, there’s the <CF_GREEK> tag, which has also been ported to PHP. There are probably more for other languages, but those are the ones I use. Hope someone finds these helpful.
