Want to build a small form-factor PC for the kitchen without spending money on one of those overpriced “computer appliances?” Take a look at this article. One note, it suggests parts to use, but doesn’t go into actually assembling the system. If you need help with that part, you can find advice here, here or here.
I should note though, at least in the HTPC sector, a self built one is rarely less expensive than a commercial appliance… it’s the flexibility and feature set you self-build for, not the price. Of course, if you have a bunch of PC parts laying around already (and who doesn’t), that reduces the immediate expense a good bit.
