One of the best level headed articles on how to effectively make money with OS software.

A long time ago, I had dreams of being a Rock Star. Since I never managed to record a hit, but did manage to get a family started, I wound up traveling the long hard road of the Muffler Man, literally. I hung mufflers. And the way I paid my bills was by hanging a lot of mufflers, making customers as happy as I could, and building relationships with them. Muffler Men typically get paid on commission, and I was no exception. What does this have to do with Free Software and making money?

You see, if you approach a Free Software project as a Muffler Man, you have a lot to offer the project, and they have a lot to offer you. If, however, you insist on being a Rock Star, you likely won’t approach the project at all and, well, you’re on your own.
