1While it’s cool that the DS will support all GBA games, what does that mean? Does it mean that it will support games written for the GBA, or any game that works on the GBA (i.e., original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games)?

2You still play those?
May 15th, 2004 at 4:09 pm
3It willa have 2 ports, one for the games and one for GBA games and other accesoris, but it will not suport GB or GBC games

4Dude! The DS is problably the best thing Nintendo came out (or probaly ever) in ages. With the Two screens, one touch and the other a reg. screen, Wi-Fi wireless internet and/or Ethernet, Backwards conbatablity w/ all GB games, 1GB cartrages, 6 buttons (L, R, A, B, X, Y). I could go on with all of the features, but it would take two long. I bet 5 bucks to anyone that it would discrace the PSP in a heartbeat. Long live Nintendo!

5now if only they had games someone over the age/mentality of a 12 year old would enjoy.

9dude, no duh DS is the best console Nintendo has made what do u expect? do u freaking think MS.DOS is better than Windows XP proffesional? -_-;;;; this is 21st century dude and of course u can play GB and GBC games, wth. in your opinion, did GBA have TWO different cartridges? NOOO, they fit into the same one, =+=;;;. and first of all, do u still play GB and GBC? just go play pac-man in some rural arcade, that would be a lot better

10The PSP looks completely and utterly…boring. At least the DS has INNOVATIVENESS! The PSP’s price is most likely going to be outrageous. And hear this…the PSP only has…2 AND HALF HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE! *Gasp!* The DS has a whopping…8-10 HOURS! Wanna know another good reason not to buy the damn PSP? There was a picture of a guy playing it…and he was cross-eyed! What was Sony thinking? They’re not only going to make idiots of themselves fighting against Nintendo for the dominant handheld, but they actually take pictures of people playing their systems CROSS-EYED! This is no joke. I saw the real picture. It was horrid. Looks like Sony’s “advertising experiance” is going down the drain. Even Nintendo knows never to take a picture of some cross-eyed idiot, while playing on something that their company made! Nintendo has OWNED the handheld market since their original GameBoy days! Nothing is going to change that. The GBA has outsold the PS2. And the DS will outsell the PSP. And even if it doesn’t outsell the PSP, we all know the DS is better, and there are a lot of Sony fans who just want the damn PSP to play movies…for 2 and a half measly hours. Good luck having fun with that stupid PSP, Sony fans. I will be having fun with my DS, while you cry into your pillow, wishing you didn’t spend $300 on a piece of junk.

11The nintendo ds may not look as good but who cares the ds is a lot better for these reasons
Dual Screens: Two LCD screens offer one of the most groundbreaking game-play advances ever developed: experiencing a game from two perspectives at once. Imagine the possibilities. In a racing game, drivers might see their own vehicle’s perspective on one screen and an overall track view on the other. In a role-playing game, the action could take place on the first screen while the second provides a reference for a player’s tools inventory. Game play also could use both screens at once, offering a giant boss for heroes to defeat. In the future, games could be created allowing users to play games on one screen while text messaging other DS users on the other. Each 3-inch screen can reproduce a true 3-D view and is backlit to assure comfortable play in any lighting condition.
Touch Screen: The lower screen will offer something never before provided by any game device: PDA-like touch capabilities. Players no longer have to rely on just buttons to move characters or shift perspectives. They can navigate menus or access inventory items simply by touching the screen with stylus or fingertip. A software-based keyboard might even allow the screen to be used as an input center for games and messaging. The possibilities are limited only by developers’ imaginations. The screen will have a tougher film cover for durability, and will come with a stylus.
Microphone: An available microphone port means that in the future, players might need only to tell their games what to do. DS software could identify everything from voice commands to hand-clapping. Players might be able to move their characters simply by telling them which way to go. The voice capabilities also could allow gamers to chat with one another over the Internet while playing.
Wireless: DS users will be able to connect with a local wireless network of up to 16 players. Nintendo’s guaranteed range is 30 feet, but will extend far beyond that depending on circumstances. It assures high response rates required for real time game play, and will make use of both IEEE 802.11 and Nintendo’s proprietary communication protocol, which provides low battery consumption. Players will be able to chat and play games without any connecting cords, completely untethered. The DS technology also provides for a wireless LAN connection, which could allow a theoretically infinite number of players to connect at a hot spot and compete at a central game hub on the Internet, even if they’re thousands of miles apart.
Wireless Game Sharing: If software developers desire, multiple players can compete in wireless games, even if only one person has a game card inserted. Players could also test-play games for themselves as long as they stayed connected.
3-D: With the newly developed graphics engine, DS can reproduce impressive 3-D renderings that can surpass images displayed on the Nintendo® 64. Games will run at 60 frames per second, and allow details like fog effects and cel shading.
Sound: The 16-channel sound allows for greatly expanded use of voices and music, and a richer, more immersive game experience. A plug for headphones transmits stereo sound.
Battery & Power Management: The battery is rechargeable and the unit features a low-energy-consumption design. The DS also has Power Management functions of Sleep mode and Standby mode. In Sleep mode, players can stop and resume game play whenever they like. If the user receives a message from a friend or user nearby, DS activates itself from Standby mode.
Processing: The unit will run on two processors, one ARM9 one ARM7.
New Media: For its compact cards, the unit uses newly developed semiconductor memory, which allows for lower cost, shorter manufacturing time and memory capacity of more than one gigabit of information.
Dual Slots: Nintendo DS makes a vast library of Game Boy® Advance games readily available. Developers could find ways to make new connections between GBA games and DS games. The GBA port could be used for new hardware, enormously expanding the functional expandability of the DS.

12Only one problem, Qwerty —
It requires a third hand if you intend to use the buttons and the touchscreen at the same time… unless you set it on something… no support while your thumbs aren’t pressed down. Try it, you’ll see. But knowing that, game designers will likely avoid requiring both types of activity at once.
July 29th, 2004 at 5:05 pm
13Hey, thanks Querty for that huge explanation but you just cut and pasted from other places because i’ve read all that before. Any way, the DS is going to be one of the best systems ever made. Better than N64 graphics on a handheld! Right now the possibilities seem endless for the system. And whoever that JC guy is, mario, zelda, and metroid prime aren’t meant for people under 12. You need to learn to appreciate what a real video game is all about. Please email me even if you don’t know me. I really want to just talk with someone about this system and see what you know.
July 29th, 2004 at 9:25 pm
14Not to mention the Super Mario Advance series is the biggest seller on the GBA, and it really caters to those of us in our mid- to late-20’s who grew up with those games…
August 19th, 2004 at 10:08 pm
15Wow this is old. Anyway, JC said something about needing a third arm for touch screen and buttons. Well there’s a good chance the developer’s will play the games they make before selling them. I don’t think control is going to be a problem.
August 26th, 2004 at 4:16 pm
16JC, you’re obviously just making up nonsense to get people to think you’re right. Like Steven said, the developers will OBVIOUSLY have game testers to test the games out BEFORE they release them. If the controls are a problem or are intrusive in some way, they will FIX THEM. Geez, JC, did you really think they’d release a game before testing them? All games are tested before they reach the eyes of the public.

17Do you have any graphic specifications for the Nintendo DS?
October 19th, 2004 at 3:01 pm
18“But knowing that, game designers will likely avoid requiring both types of activity at once.” –JC. you people shoulden’t flame at the drop of a hat. shesh.
October 19th, 2004 at 3:51 pm
19You guys have a pretty bloody weak definition of flaming. I was making a perfectly reasonable point which has been echoed by lots of other people.
If I was flaming, it would have been fairly evident. Personal insults and swear words and all that, you know, as opposed to reasoned comments about a product.
October 19th, 2004 at 5:50 pm
20oops, sorry Smash, I misread you… thought you said I was flaming them, not the other way around. :-)
message still applies to the rest, though.

21The Nitendo Ds is going to be great. It’ll be realised on November 21st for a price of $150. The day it comes out I’m buying it.
November 5th, 2004 at 9:12 am
22It plays Gba games but not GB or GBC games.
November 25th, 2004 at 6:32 pm
23I am a Nitendo and a Sony fan but the PSP is way more powerful than the DS. the DS is slighty more graphics than the Nitendo 64.The PSP is slighty less Graphics than the PS2. it is going to use a disk whichs means bigger games DS could not fit a RPG on a measly 1 gigabyte cartridge hahahahaha Wow mario, metroid prime how boringly the same.Idiots DO YOU KNOW WHY THE PSP COST MORE…BETTER STUFF DS has over 16000 colors PSP 16 million more vivid detail new games . it batery last about 6 hours because it has to spin a disk duhhhhh that it why the crapy cartidge system has low consumption it dosn’t have anything special to use energy for PSP has DVDs MP3’s beter games.Do you know what is so funny your little cartridge thing 1 gigabyte is just as powerful as PSP’s MEMORY CARD IWOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU DO THAT WITH A CARTRIDGE SYSTEM.ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha have fun with the crapy system BUT sadly the DS will come out before christmas more buys . PSP will come out after christmas when everybodys broke but i am going to get both even though DS still has the exact same games metroid prime pokemon racing games but the PSP also can have as much battery power as the DS because you have the option of loading the game before you play making it faster better. it has more better chip and expensive chips that is also why it cost more. DO YOU IDIOTS NOT KNOW THE PSP IS ASLO WIRELESS TOO but you can also chat and do everything the DS can but better sorry cheap Nitendo fans.Parker Hudson PSP’s Graphics are so much better i thought they were better i laughed when your little dumb speech about how good it is when somethings already beat it. who ever Josh is is mentalOH YEA WHO EVER JC IS . IS REALLY SMART DS WILL FALL BEFORE THE POWER OF THE PSP. how in the world are supose to look at two screens at the same time and Pause . pasue now you have to conituous play ti and how are you supose to save, waste memory by saving it on the game itself or copy powerful sony and make a memory card either way PSP is technologicaly more advanced i personally compared what PSP had in it compared to the DS and DS lost.
PSP.
PSP may not sell more but it still has better graphics and overall better!!!!!!

25PSP is going to be sweet, and so is the DS. The only thing that sucks about PSP is games for $50. Not only that, if you want to play at home on ps2, you have to buy the same game again for $50. $100 to play one game anywhere, too much. I am a huge fan of nintendo. Was a huge fan of sony till suaresoft became square and soft. Then square joint ventured with some no talent company(enix) that is messing up all of their rpg’s. Anyway it is not hard to look at two screens, especially when they are right next to each other. It’s actually harder to play videos on a big screen(more surface area). By the way BB you are way too partial. There are good and bad in bothbut you have to admit. Making a whole new system(DS) is more creative than shrinking one(PSP). Peace everyone.

27the nintendo ds can play music and movies too just like the psp. you can buy a special game boy advance cartridge for 25$ that can play dvd and music and e-books and pictures. and it works on gba sp and nintendo ds. AND it doesnt use extra battery power!!!!go to http://www.lik-sang.com for more info
December 4th, 2004 at 5:05 pm
28that wasnt right but thats kind of cool about what you said about the nitendo ds
December 9th, 2004 at 2:27 pm
29Well I for one like the fact that this system is not a replacement for the next gameboy only a system to fill in a niche for a market that will soon grow into a whole new type of gaming gadget, not so much a console though it does fill the bill with great graphics for its size, not so much a handheld as it performs a lot of functionality of high end gadgets without the high end price tag, and it is specifically targeted towards the older market 13+ instead of the traditional 12- nintendo market. As far as the Sony PSP is concerned it sounds like a great idea but short battery life and a drawn out release date could be the demise of this system and could probably turn the PSP into a high end techno gadget with the high end price tag after factoring in the absolutely no backwards compatibility thing and higher cost of new media. History shows that no one can really tread on nintendo when it comes to handhelds regardless of graphics (sony states that thiers are somewhere closer to ps2 than ps1 but not quite) and (nintendo states that theres are better than the 64 because of dual arm processors) and (we all know that the 64 had better graphics than ps1 ever had) I have a pre vote for the DS, handhelds are done better by nintendo and anything else that tries to compete learns why nintendo has been in business over a hundred years (sheer innovation)

32PSP ROCKS, you are all brainwashed dummies and enjoy the nintendo games(aimed at 7 year olds)even though they suck. When people say to you ‘well the PSP has better graphics’, your like ‘urrr well who needs graphics urr’, the whole point of a console is the graphics now.Anyway if you dont care about graphics, why are you buying the cheap(tacky, not price wise)DS, why dont you stick with the Saga Gamegear!!! better make, better games!!! And you can also shutup about well guess whos going to sell more, it only sells more because the power of advertising has increased, therefore increasing the amount of people it brainwashes.

41Firstly the psp lasts about 4-5 hours with max brightness , normal volume , while playing a game , and 6-8 hours if music is playing.
Nitendo Ds has a 16 mb sound chip , Psp has a 32 mb sound chip.
PSp can emulate games , Ds cant (as far as i know , i might be wrong)
You can watch movies from your pc on the psp.
Ds you can watch movies from cartrdiges ( i dont know if you can also do the watch movies from pc thing)
Ds has 2 screens , bright adjustable.
PSp has one wide screen , more pixels , more resulotrion but fewer brightness mode.
Ds has a touch screen along with that pen thingy.
Psp has an analog stick.
Psp processor speed 1-333mhz
Ds processors speeds one runs at 70mhz and the other at 33mhz.
Psp has slow load times due to UMD disks , but way more storage power.
Ds has smaller but Extremely fast loading cartrdiges. (and physically smaller too)
If you want an Mp3 player along video player , and have money , go for psp.
If you want fun , innovative games , but dont have that much money go for the Ds.
