I like this one because it details the steps involved when booting up the computer and how each one effects the overall time in the bootup scheme. I recently read somewhere (forgot to bookmark it, doh!) that engineers were able to reduce startup time to 2 seconds. Although I wasn’t sure that they completely shutdown the computer so it was more like activating out of sleepmode.
You may have noticed over the last several years that the delay has increased between when you start a car and when you hear the radio. When head units were simply analog FM and cassette adapters, music would start blaring out, at the current volume, the instant the car was started.
Hm, never noticed that or paid attention to it, but I think he’s right.
