Why? Because you can I guess and it would make for a nice dev machine if need be. If you decide to use it host a whole website well, let me know about it as I would be curious to see that.

Author Dan Wellman explains what the Apache HTTP web server is and how it acts as a local server so you can test PHP code or CGI scripts you’ve written to see how they will look live. Wellman concentrates on using it on your desktop PC purely for testing code.

See, even author Dan agrees that it should just be a dev machine. Gotta love that Dan.

Well, the configuration of Apache as described by the author failed for me, Apache wouldn’t work with the described configuration!

How to setup Apache… To be honest, you just go to the Apache home page (www.apache.org) and download the MSI package for Win32. Then, you install it to C:\Website or whatever directory, edit the httpd.conf file, or follow a guide on the Net about setting up Apache as a whole.
