Forever Geek is preparing to launch a couple of online stores and one of these stores will be an Anime store. On the storefront I would like to put a list of the favorite anime/manga of our readers and also thought this would be a nice way to introduce people to new stuff. So with that said, please freely speak your mind about what is your favorite anime. What shows/movies do you find yourself consistently going back to?
- Cowboy Bebop
- Vampire Hunter D
- Initial D
- Ninja Scroll
- Full Metal Alchemist (not out yet)
That is my current list and believe me it changes frequently with the only constant being Cowboy Bebop.

An Anime store, huh ? Way cool, Scrivs, really. :)
Ok, Cowboy Bebop is a real classic, you really need that one. I’d add Neon Genesis Evangelion, Naruto (still running, but will be a classic), Infinite Ryvius (rather unknown but a good one), Ghost in the shell (+Stand-alone complex), Akira, every single one you can get from Ghibli (a must) and some more unknown ones like Earth Girl Arjuna or RahXephon. Selection depends on your targeted audience.
Yeah, the only reason I didn’t include Evangelion is because I have only the opportunity to watch the first DVD. I know, I know, an anime lover who has yet to see the series can not be considered an anime lover, but I refuse to buy them individually. I need that boxset!
Cowboy Bebop is really the best anime I’ve seen so far (though Samurai Champloo may soon dethrone it, pending on more episodes I see). It just has everything you pretty much want in a series: cool characters, cool storylines, and told in an interesting way on a wonderful backdrop.
Anything from Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away and Laputa: Castle in the Sky are my FAVORITES [and are available on Disney DVD]) He’s considered a legend in Japanese animation.
Naruto for great ninja/comedy/action.
Rurouni Kenshin (or Samurai X) for great samurai/comedy/romance/action.
Marmalade Boy and Fushigi Yuugi are always girly anime classics that is addictive as it is annoying. You start being irritated by the characters early on, but it’s more like a guilty pleasure. You shouldn’t like it–you’re smarter than that, you have better standards, etc. And yet, and yet… ;-)
I say Evangelion is over-rated. It started really promising, but, petered out near the end towards really idiotic proportions. It’s an example of the production company’s hubris and how they believed their own hype. Yipes.
Anyway, um…yah! *geeks out*
Tentacle porn all the way, baby!!!
err…
the only anime movie I’ve ever watched more than once was Princess Mononoke. Oh, and I watched Metropolis about halfway through before getting pissed off at the godawful voice acting and restarting it in japanese with subtitles. :-)
Naruto definitely, and also Full Metal Panic (and season 2 Fumoffu as well) and Full Metal Alchemist.
I was waiting for the tentacle pr0n to come out. Figures it would be you JC…
Lost of good suggestions and some new ones I haven’t heard of yet. I had been meaning to check out Full Metal Panic for some time and keep on forgetting about it. Thanks for the reminder.
I forgot — Inuyasha is a really good series, too. Forget the English dubbed edited version. The better series is subtitled and non-edited.
Also check out Escaflowne. Robots+Fantasy+Alternate Earth=Very cool.
I really like Fushigi Yuugi and Witch Hunter Robin. Of course a store must include Evangelion, Bebop and Initial D.
Trigun.
Oh, HELL yah. I can’t believe I forgot about Trigun. :-)
Another little tidbit: have you ever tried manga (comics) at all? Sometimes they are better than their animated counter parts.
One series you do NOT want to miss, that probably won’t turn into an anime because it’s already so well done on paper, is Blade of the Immortal. Hands down my favorite favorite manga series of all time. :-) Beautifully drawn, wonderful stories, complex characters, and cool fight scenes.
Spirited Away / Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi is
stunigly beutiful.
Lea, please stop. You sound like a complete idiot.
Jeff, that wasn’t very nice of you.
Favorite Anime
I have afraid about an overseas youngs. because, wonderful animation the Fullmetal alchemist(hagane no renkinjyutushi) on the air ! When you watched it, The more you watched, the more you wear! (for it anime too much wonderful). Ohhhh, It is too late…..
Twelve Kingdoms (a.k.a. Juuni Kokuki), which is developing a reputation as the anime Lord Of The Rings; Ghost In The Shell Standalone Complex (seasons 1 and 2); the Ruruoni Kenshin OVAs (Trust and Betrayal, etc.); Wolf’s Rain; Grave Of The Fireflies; Berserk; and, although it’s not an anime series per se, the Great Teacher Onizuka live action series, which many fans feel is superior to the anime version.
I wanted to discuss my fav anime series, but i couldnt find anywhere else but here…
ok u bums lets start:
full metal alchemist – the est anime series i have ever seen(and ive seen a lot)
naruto – this at first looks like it only goes as deep as dragonball z… but the characters are much more complex. its on epsode 103 now.
samurai 7 – kurasawa based. excellent. supposed to one of the most expensive anime tv series made.
cowboy bebop deserves a mention aswell
Hey lok-lok,
You could always do a writeup of those series for Forever Geek and I would publish them and see how the discussion goes from there. At the very least it would put them on the front page :-)
Get backers /is an awsome manga.
the story is cool. a mangas aways got to have a great story.
I can’t believe you guys didn’t include Yuu Yuu Hakusho. This may very well be my favorite anime of all-time. Some animes have great storylines, some have great characters, others rely on humor or horror. But very seldom do you get an anime that incorporates all of these qualities effectively if not evenly.
Yusuke Urameshi is a top-five all-time anime character in my opinion. It’s ashame that Funimation has ruined the integrity of this incredibly anime that includes many adult themes. I highly suggest you watch this in its original japanese format. This show once reigned as one of the most popular manga/animes in japanese history, there can’t be a tops list without it.
also:DBZGT
The fact that your little brother ownes a Vegeta toothbrush with Super-Saiyan bristles doesn’t mean this is just some kiddie franchise, once again Funimation waters-down a very adult, violent, all-time great anime. Without this anime there’s no bebop, no trigun, full metal alchemist, etc…dbzgt opened the floodgates that popularized anime in America, by that asertion alone it must be considered a tops anime.
I’m not sure if anyone even reads these anymore, but what the hell, I might as well post anyway.
Some of my favorites are Akira (anime and manga), Berserk (manga), Battle Royale (manga), Ninja Scroll (anime), and thats all I can really think of right now.
LOVE HINA ROCKS!!!
some of my fav animes are dragonballz, ruroni kenshin the subtitled version of course, Naruto must see and oh yeah new one called BLeach really interesting!!! Neon Genesis Evangelion its all about the journey thats all!!
Hiya all! this looks… interesting! lol i like to go through here and say hi to all you people… you talk bout things i would never ever think of ever knowing! lol but it is kinda cool actually… my boyufriend is into anime… i still dont get it tho! could someone explain it to me…? tell me why people are so interested in it…? please…? luv lots… me
These are maybe not the most popular.. but definately the best:
1>Berserk
2>Gantz (Manga only)
3>Ranma 1/2
4>Full Metal Alchemist
5>Neon Genesis evangelion
6>KKNJ (i think they’re calling it his n her circumstance?)
anyway just a few but all great. berserk n gantz manga are 2 best .. ever
gah! best pics are the classics or the ones that have classic potential
1> cowboy bebop
2> inuyasha
3> trigun
4> full metal alchemist
5> naruto
Which anime would you say has the best fight scenes ever? I personally love Naruto fights, along with Kenshin. Samurai Champloo was pretty interesting and could get really intense but they focused more on dodging rather than swords clashing and sparks like in kenshin
Well Naruto is definitely da best anime i’ve ever seen. For the dude who said its on ep 103… well its on 177. I havent seen Full Metal, but i still feel there aint nuthin better than Naruto. Fights are awesome, its funny, characters are complex n also the music is the best in anime i’ve heard so far…
As for bleach, it only gets interesting when Rukia gets kidnapped… Bleach is just fancy than anything else.. theres not much focus on the fights and the action revolves around the supernatural stuff than the actual combat.
I seriously need to watch Full Metal Alchemist. Rurouni Kenshins good. I love Samurai Champloo but i wish it would have gone on a lil longr….
………. oh well………
There are a lot of good anime out there but I only found a few like
Naruto
Bleach
Full Metal Archemist
Prince of Tennis
Hikaru no Go
Eyeshield 21
Hunter x hunter (boring from begining good after)
Peace Marker
Those are some I really love !!! ^.^ I watched Trigun, cowboy bebop and Neon Genesis already but somehow I don’t feel very interesting in those
I’m looking for more anime rite now
Here’s some that I like…
Blood+
Bleach
Full Metal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop
Full Metal Panic!
Gundam Wing
Trigun
Elfen Lied
Rurouni Kenshin
try checking out Trinity Blood, It’s new so it’s not really a classic, but it’s pretty good. A must for Hellsing and Vampire Hunter D fans. Also Inuyasha should definatly be on there, it’s one of the top animes ever, Naruto too.
King of Fighters is very cool…
