Found this gem of a game while I was browsing Ars and since I am a football (soccer) fan I felt a need to share it with everyone here.
In short: HatTrick is a Soccer (or Football, for you British types) management simulator. There’s no 3D graphics, no custom interface… it’s all done through your browser, and once you settle into the game (IE. pull your starting team out of the crapper), it’ll take up 10-15 minutes, twice a week to manage your team. More, if you want to watch the matches play out in realistic time.
Matches in the game are played twice a week. League games are played every Sunday, and Cup or Friendly (if you’re out of the Cup) games are every Wednesday. Each season is 14 weeks long, with a 2-week “break” between seasons. You can advance through the ranks – US has 6 divisons, while other countries have more or less, with each division being split up into a number of Series (I hear some have as many as 9 divisions, and thousands of different Series!). You play against people from your own country during League play, but you can play Friendly games against people from anywhere in the world (and there are advantages to doing so).
Overall, it’s a pretty involved setup. If you like management simulators, then you might like this one.
