Don’t be so quick to toss out your old PCs, fax machines or digital cameras — office supply retailer Office Depot is partnering with Hewlett-Packard to offer recycling of one electronic product a day for free all through the summer.
I have nothing smart, funny, or witty to say to this one. Good cause and we all know the tons of useless junk we have laying around could be put to better use.

1Add to that the fact that PCs contain some of extremely harmful substances, and they usually end up in landfill, leaching heavy metals into the water table. So this recycling initiative has got to be a good thing.

3This is not that original an idea, except that they are looking to make a buck off of it.
All my old computer hardware gets donated to the local Goodwill. There are other non-profits that accept old computer hardware also.
I personally would rather have a poor kid get my old computers at a Goodwill then supporting a MegaCorp looking to exploit a “good cause”.

4Sean,
As a Store Manager of Office Depot I can promise you we’re not making as much as we’re spending to do this.
Since we’ve started this program (at the beginning of the week) we’ve seen very few people make purchases when bringing in their old equipment. In fact, it’s costing Office Depot & HP (who we’ve partnered with to do this) nearly $23 and item to have them shipped back and recycled.
Yes, we are hoping that some people will make new purchases and recognize the good we’re trying to do, but we won’t be able to make more than we spend on this program.
