ExtremeTech has a review of the recently released VMWare Workstation.

Many folks are curious about Linux and have wondered whether or not they should try it out. Well, wonder no more. VMWare makes it very easy to run Linux right on your Windows desktop. And, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try running the beta versions of the next version of Windows called “Longhorn” or even Sun’s Solaris operating system.

And their conclusion…

For the operating systems that it officially supports, VMWare does a good job. It can be especially useful for Linux dabblers and kernel-compiling tweakers. With it, you can fold, spindle, and/or mutilate Linux distro bits in a virtual machine and still have a running system at the end of the day. All in all, it’s a solid tool–and if you’ve got sufficient horsepower and hard-disk space, you don’t have to settle on just one Linux distribution on your system.
