Dump Kazaa. Try Shareaza

For some reason I’ve never quite grasped, Kazaa is what most people seem to think of when a file sharing app is suggested. The free version is full of spyware, the pay version still has a little (IIRC), and it uses the same networks as the rest of them do.

So dump it! Try Shareaza — it’s free (beer AND speech), has no spyware at all, and the latest release is open source (GPL), too. It can access the Gnutella1, Gnutella2, and eDonkey networks, and was perhaps the first client to offer swarmed downloading (not sure if competitors do that now, probably so), where you only download a few bytes of the file from multiple sources, so the file comes together bit by bit, and as soon as you download a bit of it, someone else can download that bit from you, which really speeds things up tremendously because you’re not limited to people with the completed file, and you can download bits and pieces from a dozen people at once. So try it, I think you’ll like it. :-)

Looks nice, but the one great thing about Kazaa (lite) is that so many people use it. With so many people sharing so much, there is lots more to download. Although I may be wrong b/c I havn’t checked out Shareaza yet. =)

Unless I’m mistaken, Kazaa is just another gnutella client. It doesn’t matter what client you’re on, it’s the network. If you’re on shareaza you can get stuff from anyone on a gnutella 1 or 2 network, or edonkey.

So the number of users of the software has zero relation to the availability of files.

I like winmx because it is less known, but and therefore under the radar, yet I always get what I need.

Shareaza is great. The only thing that probably is the slow download of files even though it can download from several sources at once.

With the increase in popularity and users, I have no doubt that it will grow like wild fire sustaining on its own energy.

Justin is a dumbass. Shareaza is way better than Kazaa…why don’t you download it and then you’ll know. How can you comment on something you’ve never tried? The number of users of the application has nothing to do with it…it’s all about the network. Since Shareaza connects to the same network as Kazaa, in addition to others, it’s already better in that respect. Combine zero spyware with better features and a sleek design…you’ll soon realize Shareaza is on its way to being one of the best file sharing apps ever! From someone who has tried all the other p2p apps (Kazaa, mIRC, DirectConnect, eMule, etc….), Shareaza is a dream come true.

    I agree Shareaza is brill

  7. NJ says:

hmm… I’m not so sure. I still think winmx was way better and easier to use than shareaza. But, I have no choice now. Winmx is no longer available. Guess, this is the next best option to use.

i tried shareaza but it seems that i was able to download some of the things i need. kazaa would have been better if only no spywares in it. too bad….
