Mobile device supplier Peripheral Corner has launched what it claims is the “Swiss Army Knife of gadgets” – a hard drive-equipped portable video player, the PV-330.
The unit ships with up to 40GB of storage and can handle MP3 audio, MPEG 4 video and JPEG still photography which can be acquired from a host device (PC, digital camera, etc) via USB 2.0. Playback is serviced via Real Networks’ Real One Player. The PV-330 contains 64MB of SDRAM for skip-free playback and also boasts 2MB of Flash ROM.
An RCA port provides for playback via a television or projector. The PV-330 can also be used as a PVR: it has its own video encoder (based on the G.726 codec) which can encode video at 320×240 resolution and 24-28fps directly to the hard disk.
Audio can also be recorded directly via the units AV connections or built-in microphone.
The PV-330 can also be used as a standard, external hard disk.
