John Terpstra provides an example of simple Samba network server architecture. The customer wants a simple solution, but knowing this business is about to grow rapidly, this network will be designed so that it can meet future needs without limitation. This simple network uses User Mode security but delivers it with the same simplicity of use that an anonymous read-write file and print server delivers.

Not too often am I able to talk about Samba around here, but it is easily one of the most important Open Source projects in existence. Without it, we really have no marketshare for Linux or even any Linux migration in the enterprise.

John does a great job of creating an article that uses a “real-life” example to show how you can replace those old-outdated, unsupported NT4 Servers with a slick running Samba server.
