I must say that this short dramatic reading greatly increased the enjoyablility of my work day. Anyone that has received Nigerian scam email will appreciate the “artistry” of this piece. I would go on a limb and say this could perhaps be the best movie adaptation of a written piece (misspellings and all) that I have seen. Enjoy! [ via LYD ] Read more »

RSS: The Ultimate Opt-In Solution
David Sklar suggest that RSS could be the “Ultimate Opt-In Solution” over on the O’Reilly Developer Weblogs. I have to say, he has a good point. If I could just add a personalized feed into my feed reader, we (me and the company) would both be better off: I can trust the source of the message, so I don’t need to do any spam filtering. I can retrieve the feed over an SSL connection, so it’s a feasible way to provide sensitive data like a bank statement or monthly bill. The company I’m getting the feed from knows when my feed is retrieved so it has some rough metrics for Read more »

New features include: New language updates: Metadata, Generics, Enumerated types, Autoboxing of primitive types New JVM Monitoring and Management API Improved out-of-box performance New (but compatible) default Java look and feel. I don’t use Java so I don’t really have much else to say about this announcement. Ho-hum. Just Open Source the damn thing. Read more »
Access vs. MySQL
I was reading this article over at Codewalkers and realized I was in trouble the instant I came across this sentence: With numerous choices available on the market, considering you don’t want to put too much investment on it, only MySQL stands out from the crowd. I have no idea why people continue to ignore PostgresSQL. I think they read too much of the Linux propaganda which always seems to emphasize MySQL, but PostgresSQL is just as capable, if not more capable, of performing the same tasks as MySQL, but I digress. The article covers whether or not you should move your data over to MySQL from Access. This to Read more »
3DMark05 Released
For all you benchmarking junkies out there, the newest version of 3DMark05 has been released. To anyone that’s not in the know, this is the benchmarking application when testing video cards. You can get a free demo download and run your card through the torture if you so desire, but I would only advise so if you have a modern card. Otherwise you will be viewing a glorified slideshow. The Tech Report has run a large number of cards through the benchmark so that you can see how they perform. Interestingly enough, it looks like the Ati’s come out on top. via Ars Technica Read more »
FG Late Night Redesign
So I was talking to my business partner/friend Mike Rundle last night about business issues over at Business Logs and decided it was a good time to have a beer. Well if it was a good time to have a beer then it was most definitely a good time to redesign Forever Geek I figured because we all know that black, white, red color scheme wasn’t really working too well and everything was just too cluttered. I wanted to get back to simplicity because that is what I like, but I also wanted to finish it before the sun rose. What a fun task. However, I didn’t completely finish it, Read more »
Fantastic Four
I love comic book movies. No, make that I love super-hero comic book movies, ones where the main character(s) has some special ability caused by a spider bite or coming from a distant planet or even another realm. Sure, the Caped Crusader is a super-hero by his own right, but no one has managed to capture him quite as well as Michael Keaton. I’m betting Christian Bale dethrone him, but we’ll just have to wait and see. That said, this one looks just sweet. No, not because it stars Jessica Alba in a skin-tight suit, but because we finally get to hear “It’s clobberin’ time!” from The Thing, see the Read more »

Final Nintendo DS Packaging
Nintendo has revealed the final box design for the Nintendo DS. It features a blurb about the included Metroid demo, with a picture of the DS running PictoChat on the side panel. Yes, we are really that desperate for Nintendo DS news that we make a post just because a picture of the freakin’ cardboard box has been released. And don’t pretend like you aren’t a little excited to see the box, either. Read more »
A DOS Game Index
Because I can’t be bothered to actually do a search, and I love me my DOS games, luckily a reader alerted us to a good index. The index lists the game along with category and version type all with a nice alphabetical order. Most games link directly to a download. So, fire up your DosBox and don’t let the aliens eat your babysitter. Er, something. Related: Dos Games Dos Game Archive Thanks Jon Read more »
