Before you all rush out and buy a soundock, I am returning mine because it will not charge the new generation IPods and acually locked up mine, actually three brand new ones. Do the research, apparantly they have fixed thie issue with the soundock II. I will find out today.

If I buy this from the US does it work in the U.K even though the voltages are different. Can I just use a travel adapter?

I've a question. Has the bose soundock any rear socket for accessory sources ( like portable CD player ) , and if so, what kind of plug?

To those who are ranting and raving about this Bose system, did you check out the Klipsch system for $20 less? It sounds a hell of a lot better. In the audio store I worked at, none of us ever sold Bose. Over priced and under rated. We used to have a saying... No highs- no lows - must be Bose!

I have a few questions for those who support the bose speakers: 1) can the bose sound dock be used with other mp3 players? if not, then whats the use if your ipod breaks down? 2) can the ipod be docked with a case? i have the contour showcase for the click wheel ipod, and it protects my ipod from all scratches and damages....i do not want my ipod to be damaged when someone accidentally bumps into it, so i was wondering whether the bose sound dock accomodates cases

I have read several reviews insulting the bose sound dock capabilities. First of all, I am a college student and listen to a wide spectrum of music, any where from hip-hop to frank sinatra. My roomate has a very nice, and loud stereo that we used to dock my iPod to. Compared to the bose the only thing that would even remotely make my roomates stereo better is the ability to turn the volume up very loud. Other than that the bose sound dock plays all the highs and all the lows. The bass might not be the greatest, because there isn't a lot of room for air to flow, but the sound dock makes up for that by lowering the bass and playing more mids. This is by far THE BEST PORTABLE SOUND DOCK FOR THE iPOD. From what is sounds like the people who are knocking it are just pissed because of the cost. I payed for this by myself and have not regreted doing so at all!! Its great for small rooms and even sounds great in larger rooms. Instead of saying buy this sound dock and don't look at any others, I'll tell you to do what i did. I went and plugged my iPod into every portable sound device there was and played all kinds of different music to hear what it sounded like. After testing SEVERAL sound systems I bought the bose. Enough said. And for everyone that knocked the bose....get your batteries checked in your hearing aid because this little baby sounds incredible.

I have had the SoundDock for one month now. It is just great. It was never intended to replace a full size sound system, and within the constraints of its size, it performs fantastically well. The mid range misses out a little, but the bass is surprisingly good for a unit of this size.

Those who just can all Bose products need to get a life. Sure, there are issues with Bose products, not all are great, but this is a cracker. I have widely recommended it to friends and many have bought it and are delighted.

Dont hesitate, it fills a large room with excellent sound, is portable enough to carry into the garden or away on vacation.

Well worth the money

They're an established marketing company that's been around for years. The free sound dock thing you mention is... what, just some guy? Now, that doesn't mean it's not legit... but I'd be more than a bit leery about it.

After learning of the impending release of the Sound Dock, I was agitating to get one, until I tried it out at the local Bose store with my iPod. It is akin to having a single, decent speaker for your home stereo system, minus the subwoofer to reproduce bass appropriately. Until Bose makes one with an integrated subwoofer, I would recommend listening to your iPod through your home stereo outfit, unless you plan to keep it as a night table unit.

I just received the Bose Soundock and have been demoing it all day. I can tell any of you out there interested, without ANY hesitation, that this is BY FAR THE FINEST portable IPOD speaker system yet developed. I also have purchased the Altec Lansing INMOTION unit AND the Cambridge Soundworks Mick Fleetwood Model 12 satellite system, as well as own the old Bose Roomate self powered system in the big case, with 12 volt battery system, so I feel i am qualified to comment.

Comparatively speaking, the Altec system is not even in the same universe with the Bose Soundock, so I won't waste your time with that commentary. THe Cambridge Soundworks unit is an amazing, hi performance, satellite system with subwoofer. Highly recommended for those that don't mind taking the system out, hooking it all up, etc.... very portable, incredible sound from any source....

HOWEVER, that being said.... this new Bose system has several advantage.... it can be configured with most any IPOD, 3G/4G including the mini..... because it comes with several adapters to seat the IPOD in the Bose dock. Additionally, the Bose unit charges your Ipod.... and the RF remote control.... INDESPENSIBLE!!! and multi featured.

Now for the sound.... in a few words ... and again comparatively speaking .... ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE....!!!! I am not a died in the wool Bose guy....nor do I work for them or any electronics company. I merely felt so enthusiastic about this product that, tho I almost NEVER post about products, felt compelled to share it with those that are looking for the be all and end all to date.... the BOSE SOUNDOCK is the real deal, regardless of its price.... I personally feel worth every penny!

The portability of this unit, the features, and of course, the incredibly crisp, clear hi's and the amazingly clear and clean bass at ANY volumn, make this the clear winner to any PORTABLE system yet marketed, ANYWHERE....

If you want to use it for tailgating, simply get a DC / AC converter and you are all set. This unit makes traveling ANYWHERE with your playlists a breeze.... HI end, crisp, clear, big bass sound from an amazingly small box....

I am sure that some folks will think of this or that.... that they would like to see added .... that would be nit picking. The Bose Soundock is EVERYTHING YOU NEED!!! Truly the gold standard with which to measure ANY OTHER unit available of its kind to date..... 9 - 28 - 2004

oops, sorry, it's *only* 300 dollars.

I'd suggest reading this or googling a bit before buying anything by bose... and of course, taking with more than a grain of salt the people telling you how great their bose units sound... no one likes to feel like they've been had after blowing thousands of bucks. Read around on headfi.org, where people with real audio experience hang out, and see what they have to say (same applies to everything made by 'monster' except that their stuff is actually good quality, just not particuularly better than stuff that costs far less)

They're not the worst. They compare favorably to most 20-50 dollar speaker units. For 300 bucks, though, you can get a much better sounding unit. Of course, since this is ipod specific, there's not alot of competition.. the altec lansing ones sound decent, but not great. Of course, you can take *any* powered speakers and plug the ipod dock into them (for clean line-out, which sounds better than going through the amplified headphone jack), including good quality ones.
