It’s been a while since we initially posted about freeflatscreens.com. Scrivs received his 15 inch Magnavox flat panel TV a couple of weeks ago… and now I’ve received my 27 inch Sony Wega. Thanks to everyone who signed up under me, and thanks especially to the small percentage of you who followed through with the offers.

So, here it is, real, sitting in my living room. I know there are still a few people out there who are convinced this is some big scam… and I don’t know if this will prove it to you or not, but I assure you, I did not go out and blow 400 bucks on an idiot box that I’ll only watch a movie or two a week on and use for video games once in a while. This baby was free. Well, free plus a free ebay signup and one losing bid on a coffee grinder. :-)
It arrived the day after they told me it was shipped. All 110 pounds or so of it. Big, heavy box. And with the speakers I hadn’t accounted for, too big for my old TV stand. I had to go out and hunt down a new one, or leave the thing sitting on the floor. I didn’t really like the design of the matching stand — it looks good, but my old stand had glass doors, too, and they were never, ever shut — gotta keep the PS2 controllers happy — so I wanted to avoid that. I shopped around, and found a nice slate-topped wine cart that fit my living room and my nice new TV quite nicely… and is wide open for the ps2, and even has a drawer to store stuff in (I dumped my small DVD collection and all my games in there posthaste).
So there you go. 27 inch Sony Wega Trinitron flatscreen — free. Pictures and everything. You can even see a bit of the little baby TV I bought 8 years ago for 100 bucks that this one replaced. Progress. Yay. So thanks again, I hope everyone who signed up under me gets theirs soon, too, and if you haven’t signed up yet, what on earth are you waiting for? Get clicking!

3Or, you can buck the system and use Shop The States and use the address they give you through there and just pay for the shipping, which is probably going to cost a hell of a lot less than buying the actual deal.

5I got mine (Sony Wega 27″ TV) a couple of weeks ago, and when I hooked it up to Time Warner Cable, it was awesome. Unfortunately, the TV only lasted for 24 hours. The next day, it wouldn’t even power on, I’ve tried multiple electrical outlets and all the clocks in the house were working fine, so we didn’t have any power outages, no storms or anything. So I called Sony up and told them it was DOA, and they hemmed and hawwed and said they will call me 4 days later. They did and they hired someone nearby to come out and repair the TV 2 days later. That day was today, and the guy calls and said he can’t come because it’s raining and he is using a pickup truck with no cover. Needless to say, who wants a brand new repaired TV? Sony will not exchange the TV. Needless to say, if I didn’t get this TV for free, I’d be having a fit over this subpar customer support. I don’t think I’m going to ever want to buy a Sony TV after this. :(

6well, that sucks, Matt. Hope mine doesn’t do that. But overall, it has excellent reviews on amazon and elsewhere with only a few complaints of failures, so I figure I’m probably safe. And freeflatscreens does have 3 or 4 other TVs available if someone doesn’t want the sony.

7Anymore I don’t trust Sony products. My Sony CD-Recorder had the same kind of problem that Matt had with his TV. It lasted a couple of hours and then just died. After 2 months (!!!) of waiting, Sony exchanged my product with a new one. Two months! I didn’t even remembered that I had bought a CD-Recorder! The only thing I know now is that I’ll never buy anything from Sony ever again! And I’m more than happy to make Sony anti-propaganda :-)

8Yea, it seems to be a great TV, I’m hoping Sony can get me another one soon. They hired a local repairman to come out and repair it, and I was appalled. I asked the repairman when he got here if he would want a repaired brand new TV and he was sympathetic and said he’d call Sony up and tell them they should send me a new one, it can’t be repaired. Hopefully Sony does the right thing, because I’d really like to have a working Sony WEGA TV, not a big paperweight.

9good luck. There probably wasn’t much wrong with your TV though… from what I understand, it’s like most other large electronics…w hen you ship them, occasionally they get jostled enough that something comes loose and needs to be reconnected. Happens with computers all the time… tvs have fewer parts that aren’t soldered together than computers do, so it’s less common.
Barbutti.. fine, feel free to dislike sony… but that really has nothing at all to do with what I posted. Find an anti-sony site if you feel the need to go into greater detail.. or at least something that deals with the product you had a problem with.
