In honor of the upcoming Halloween holiday, I went in search of great geeky halloween costumes. As any good geek, I fired up Google. I must say that after a nearly 20 page deep search, Google almost failed me.

I did come across this Palm Visor which I thought to be quite clever. Not the latest greatest technology (it is from 2001), but according to the costume designer, “I chose the Visor because the Springboard slot in the back is where my ‘customers’ will put their candy.”

This girl gets kudos for her detailed hobbit garb. Extra bonus points for her extra hairy feet.

2my all time favorite costume… I was at a halloween party maybe 8 years ago, and a guy came in wearing two pieces of white foamboard, one in front, one in back. hanging from one was a roll of toilet paper, the other had a box of markers taped to it…. he came as a toilet stall wall, complete with grafiti.
my second favorite was in gpfcomics.com, when Nick dressed up as Dr. Who (tom baker edition). that’s a cool costume. at least, from a geek perspective. most people wouldn’t get it. heh.
oh, and there were the two philosophy students in college who wore signs reading “4″ and “2″ and walked so the ultimate answer was always visible.

3Hands down, the best costume I’ve ever seen is– a Transformer costume that actually transforms. (Click on the image to get the full transforming effect)
That’s geek to the core, baby.

5my friend Tom once fashioned a miniature mobile contraption that he fasted to his suit pocket. The mobile had some string with a couple of dimes taped to it. Whenever people claimed that he wasn’t dressed up– he pointed to his fancy tiny mobile and announced that he was a shifting paradigm– genius.
