If you are into torrent trakers that share Retro game roms, then you shoudl check out Underground Gamer. Its a relatively new site, but has tons of retro roms on there.

You can also use the open source DOSBox for playing old games designed for MS-DOS and ScummVM for playing some of the old LucasArts games. They run on a variety of platforms.

Don't forget MAME which emulates over 3,500 different Arcade games. You can find bundles of these ROMs on bittorrent as well. You can even get a joystick made out of real arcade parts for the most realistic gaming possible. :)

you can also get huge collections of games on bittorrent. For instance a single zip file with every single US SNES game released (over 700 games). Same for genesis, NES, etc.

IRC is a good source for newer games like Game Boy Advance and PSX. A lot of the ROM sites don’t carry the newer games because of the larger file sizes, and also companies protect their copyrights more aggressively for games that they are still making money on.

Doh Games has an excellent selection of NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, GameBoy, and GameBoy Color ROMs. All the most popular ones are no trouble at all to find. The N64 ROMs are hard to get because of bandwidth limits, unless you donate $10 for an "elite" account, which gets you unlimited downloads, plus FTP access to Playstation Disc Images, which are usually up to 650mb in size.
