This is all correct, but you left out the main reason that most people mod their xboxes: backing up games onto the hdd.

AND

if you end up opening ur xbox to upgrade the hdd, you might as well install some case light mods and pimp it out.

There are several errors here. #1. You most certainly DO NOT have to have the XDK to run XBMC. The XDK was not even used to develop the software. The XDK only compiles source files into the xbox's native executible format, .xbe . #2. You DO need a mod chip to run Gentoox, or any other software not licenced by Microsoft. (A newer option instead of using a mod chip, a method of modding the xbox without opening the case has been developed, exploiting some game saves in a 007 game, Mechassault, or Splinter Cell. This is commonly referred to as "Soft-Modding")

Also, don't look forward to storing many large files on the xbox, as a stock xbox only has an 8gb/10gb hard drive. An upgrade is very simple to do.

FOR ALL THINGS XBOX: VISIT www.xbox-scene.com

There are many guides and how-to's on that site, and many supportive people on their large forums.
