Youre a moron for leaving kazaa just for ads, derek. the only reason i could ever see for leaving kazaa would be because every .exe file on there has some sort of virus or trojan.

eXeem has the option to rate a file once its downloaded and seeding from your computer. Obviously if a file has a bad rating you know it most likely has some sort of virus or is incomplete or what not. This hopefully will be strong enough to fix the kazaa problem.

i myself have no problem with ads on the program. id actually prefer them to help support the developers so they keep everything up to date and offer better customer service.

eXeem i hear WILL be compatible with old BitTorrent files, and will be released within a few weeks for beta testing.

Its a hybird of bitTorrent protocol and tracker code WITHIN the client.

Basically eliminates the need for a website to browse for .torrent files and allows for ’searching’.

As for conencting to a server, I don’t get that part.. but you do. At least to ‘authenticate’ the beta you do. Mabye the final will be different. IF there is a ‘central’ server that is where the MPAA will go next so that would be dumb if they did it that way and didn’t have to.

As for the ads, I had hard it was a few static ads, and a free prog. Not a big deal for me… and they’d prob sell a ad-free version for a few bucks… not to mention I’m sure there will be mods and hacks of it if it really is that annoying or intrusive. (same goes for linux and mac compat. versions)

This is going to be good… its a good step in the evoloution of p2p and I don’t think half of you understand what IT is.

Bittorrent was getting out of hand. The first time i saw it was mid-2003, and all I found were tv episode downloads. A year later, you could get almost anything you wanted, eg anime/gamez/books/software/music/movies.

Even though the suprnova.org developers had a legal disclaimer, they were quick to close after being threatened by copyright agencies.

Exeem sounds a bit like the new morpheus, or the new kazaa, or the new overnet – privacy invading. First I read about it being decentralized, then I hear Sloncek saying you must connect to a server – isn’t that what kazaa does. He/she even says “just like kazaa”. ..That’s not decentralized.

Your accusation about it being spyware filled does not sound far from the truth after seeing so many p2p applications take the same path.

I’ve used the BETA and I don’t see how its any better than past P2P programs. Its exactly the same as Ares in its functions except that people can’t share folders, you have to create a torrent for each file or group of files you want to share. Less incentive for people to share rare files really.

IF SO THEN IS THE RELEASE of eXeem really necessary?

well… a bunch of rogue software engineers will create somefin spectacular or craptacular depending on how much “rip” do they take from the previous P2P programs.

im looking forward to eXeem. wonder how i can join the beta testing teams…

Yeah, if you are taking money from advertising, you have to have an address, which means someone can find you.

An open source method would be a good way to do it… Who would they sue?

Well it certainly sounds awful, and more than a little fishy. He doesn’t say exactly what will be the protocol used, won’t tell us the name of the company behind it and is pretty vague about the rest of the questions asked.

And yet he’s pretty sure about one thing, the most important point to this mysterious company by the looks of it: there will be adware, lots of it.

Hmmmm, no thanks.

Is it impossible to form an open-source program to track torrents? Would this be any tougher to crack in court?

I’m impressed with the durability of DC++, where I can slowly download from one user at a time. Can a program imitate that but take advantage of Bittorrent’s streaming property?
