we’re thinking that it’s better to get people used to the idea that their photos can be easily geotagged than to wait for GPS encoding to really arrive. we take a fairly liberal approach to including photos – so this is why if you tag your photos with “beach,” it’ll sometimes show up in Beach, North Dakota.

the issue isn’t so much the geo-encoding – that part’s fairly easy. the real thing, we think, is finding a way for people to start exploring in this space, with photos that they already have online – before they have the technology.
