Why just procrastinate when you can procrastinate in a structured fashion? In his essay, Structured Procrastination, John Perry delves into something that I believe I have been practicing for many, many years. However, now I have a name for it — structured procrastination.

The list of tasks one has in mind will be ordered by importance. Tasks that seem most urgent and important are on top. But there are also worthwhile tasks to perform lower down on the list. Doing these tasks becomes a way of not doing the things higher up on the list. With this sort of appropriate task structure, the procrastinator becomes a useful citizen.

And, really, why shouldn’t I alphabetize my CDs while mulling over the 10 page paper due the next day?
