Depends on how "heavy" your heavy is. This is a fast G4 processor, so it'll do Photoshop just fine. The speed of the processor isn't really the bottleneck there...you'll want to throw in a 1GB memory module (the max) and it should handle most anything you can throw at it.

Keep in mind, the G4 was the top of the line for this sort of thing before the G5 came along and there are still plenty of them out there doing just this sort of thing.

#7 the 80 GB drive is a 4200 rpm drive but apparently the 40 GB drive is a 5400 rpm Seagate Momentus ST94011A. I've seen at least one report where the 40 GB beats the 80 GB (but don't ask where since I've read about a hundred Mac mini reviews).

Unfortunately, you can't get the 1.42 GHz G4 with the 40 GB drive.

My apologies. I've seen reference to both, but I didn't think to actually check. I just looked it up and it's the Toshiba MK8025GAS, which is a 4200rpm drive.

Unless you were gaming or doing disk-intensive work, I bet you wouldn't notice the difference. The more I use it, the less of a difference I see (in everyday use) with my G5. I can't wait to get 1GB of memory in it.

You say the hard drive is 5400 rpm, but I read elsewhere on Macworld that it's 4200 rpm. Does the bigger drive spin faster than the 40GB?

I posted some photos of my Mini on top of my Antec Sonata case. I thought I had a quiet PC until I turned the Mini on. Except the CD on there is really loud.

I actually joked around with my wife about getting one, but she was so sick of problems with XP, she shockingly gave in. Now she loves it and we can share via Rendezvous instead of fudging things with Samba.

I thought about trying to get an old G4 off eBay, but this thing is just so small and quiet -- well, it's just perfect for her.

This makes me want one even though I don't know how much I'd use it or where I'd put it.

And to think, I could have had one for the amount of money I just put into tires for my car. :(

Very nice indeed. When I was at the Apple store yesterday I too was shocked at the size of the lil buggers. When people tell you they are small, you really can't understand until you see on yourself. Same goes with iPod Shuffles.
