Mac Question Session: P2P Software

Alright so my first question in the Mac Question Session section is what is a good P2P software package to use? On the PC I loved WinMX because it served my needs. What should I look into on the OS X platform?

Acquisition. The most Mac-like by far.

  2. Si says:

soulseeX – native Soulseek (my favourite music network) client for OS X. Looks great too.

  3. Acquisition (Gnutella), mlMac (eDonkey2000), Azureus (BitTorrent)

  4. Ian Horner says:

I’ve recently tried XFactor, and I’ve been very happy with its connectivity to various networks, and its Mac-like interface. The dealmaker though, is its support for Growl, a wonderful systemwide notification utility.

  5. I’ll refer you to Mac P2P Guide and then on to Poisoned, a OpenFT/giFT client (Kazaa). Hopefully, eXeem will develop a Mac client soon, it is a P2P BitTorrent client, i.e. Kazaa powered by a decentralized BitTorrent.

I use xfactor too. Pretty happy. For ED2K I use the beta Mac GUI. For BT, I use Azureus.

  7. mikey says:

    i’d go with the above:

azureus is a hard-to-beat BT client.

poisoned used to be good, but hasn’t worked for me lately.

    don’t rule out frogblast (hotline)

  8. Rob says:

I concur with the posters above, Acquisition is my favorite Mac P2P program by far.

  9. Kenneth says:

Acquisition looks alright. You can’t really go wrong with Gnutella, so it has my vote (installed, but I haven’t used it yet).

But do you really need anything other than bittorrent? Free, native to just about every platform, easy to use. If you don’t like the barebones default version, get Azureus. It works great and looks nice-ish.

And Limewire’s not bad in a pinch.

aquisition, limewire, and bittorrent os x (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/)

I have to say Xfactor for P2P. I’ve tried some other programs but its Xfactor that works best for me.

  12. Nathan says:

Cabos … it’s the new kid on the block, but it works well for me.

  13. DD says:

    Here’s a few p2p apps
XNap (connects to the same network as WinMX)
    mlMac
    Poisoned
    DirectConnect
