Yesterday was quite possibly one of the most entertaining days I have ever had playing World of Warcraft. It was first spent doing some quests by myself and partnering with random people. The first major screenshot-worthy encounter occurred when JoeBlow asked me to help him with a quest. I wasn’t in the mood, but it was a quest that I had to do myself so I figured it couldn’t hurt.
The quest entitled, The Captain’s Chest involves you killing a lvl 47 elite giant so hopefully you can understand my hesitation when a lvl 37 asks me to help him out with it (note: I was lvl 41 at the time of this quest). With that it was on our way to kill a giant.
When I first saw Gorlash I think no one can sum up my reaction any better than one of my party members Fritolays:
Oh shit! We gotta kill that
Yep, we had to kill that. And that is what we did. To give a better perspective of his size check out this pic:
If you notice on one of the screenies it mentions that Lauran (JC) has come online so now you know the party is really about to begin…
I met up with Lauran and Munix (Derek) in IronForge (Dwarf Capital) and we decided to make a trip to the Scarlet Monastery.
I have taken a trip to SM twice before, but both times I was teleported there by a party so there was never a need to run. However, since I wasn’t already at SM, Lauran, Munix and I had to take a road trip to get there. There mistake was letting me lead.
I took them into the Western Plaguelands, which is a 51-58 lvl zone, to attempt to take a shortcut. We ran into the Ruins of Andorhal where there are plenty of goons hanging around. Here is a transcript of the short journey that followed:
Lauran: uh, you sure you took the right path?
Brefli: jajajajajadfklajdfljadf
Munix: why are we here?
Brefli: hahaah
Brefli: whoops
Lauran: LOL
Brefli: trying to run past here
Before I show the images of the hilarity that ensued let me offer some background. Whenever I party with Lauran and Munix, I always make Munix a soulstone so he can resurrect (res) himself and res the rest of us if we all die. Well we all died and Munix res’ed himself only to find this happen to him:
To say the least he didn’t make it.
Finally we arrive at SM and handled the first boss without incident so it was on to the second boss. When we arrived at the spot of the second boss we were greeted with this:
What you can’t see is that there are about 20 goons in there and we have to reach the boss at the end on the steps. We died quickly, but fought valiantly.
When we res’ed back we found out that all the goons we killed previously had respawned so this dampered our spirits. We decided that the only way we would fight the boss is if we could run past all of them to get to him. And the race was on…
…and we lost.
We gave up after that and just decided to work on other stuff. However, we know there will be a day where we return and slaughter everyone inside that damn church.
Good times.

1you didn’t get the screenshot of mumu falling off a cliff, twice?

2I only saw him do it once and at that time I really didn’t think he was going to actually fall off the cliff. Besides the tears in my eyes from laughing so hard prevented me to see most of the fall.

3Stuff like that makes me wanna get this game… Will this game kill my private life (which I don’t really have) and take control of my life?

4Gorlash, also a tough sucker to kill. But it’s great watching a little gnome mage take him on. :D
The best strategy for SM, clear out the gardens, take out the disciples in the main room without aggro’ing Mograine, and be sure to clear out the side pocket rooms as well – because they’ll all flood out of there when you attack Mograine if they’re still alive. Of course you also have to deal with Whitemane resurrecting him too. :\ (She’s perfect for Mana Drain though. :D)
To bananas: It’ll kill more than just your private life. You’ll want to stay home from work, and your HP will significantly decrease. In this case HP will be represented by hygiene points. And, well, that’s just unpleasant for everyone.
Wait, what?

5I was using Mana Drain like no other on the SM Protectors who seem to do a wonderful job of healing themselves. It would’ve been a little easier with a 5th person, either a mage or a priest, but really most of the mistakes happened on bad scouting and bad pulls. I take full responsibility for the ass whooping.
Bananas: To me it comes down to how much self-control you have. I admit to spending one whole solid day playing the game, but didn’t even touch it last night because I know its not going anywhere. My social life is still intact. The question shouldn’t be how much will the game interfere with life, but how much will you let it interfere with your life?

6I was thinking the same thing… next time we go we should try for a priest and a mage, or a priest and a rogue. Now that I have Dire Bear maybe i’ll die less… lol. My AC, solo, is about 3200… with a good pali buff on top of my own it should pass 4000, maybe come close to 5. Unless those don’t triple, too… I’m not quite clear on that.

7As with anything its all about perspective. I can’t keep up with some of my guildies that play all the time but the fun of this game is that you don’t have to (at least not to the extent that you had to in EQ).
I’m having a blast and I only play 5-15 hours a week.
What servers are you guys playing on?
