I'm personally glad to see IE7 coming to XP. Even if it is only SP2. But it beats Microsoft's original plans to only release IE7 with their new version of the Windows Operating System.

Interview

M$: We're comming out with a new browser, IE 0.7, I mean v7.

Reporter: I understand. You were sharing the same standards that would make the current Firefox 1.0.

M$: Anyway, we've decided to add some of our newest innovations, such as MSTabBrowse(tm), MSPopBlock(tm), MSExtensions(tm), etc.

Reporter: Weren't they invented before by someone else?

M&: You want to argue with our lawyers and 200,000 patents? By the way, we're also going to make this browser more secure.

Reporter: You mean it's not gonna ship with that Active X BS?

M$: It will, but at least it's gonna be more user friendly!

Reporter: So it's going to fully support CSS and PNG?

M$: No, but it's not like trying to make a better product here. We just need to make it somewhat close to the competition and leave the rest to our marketing team with unlimited funding, monopoly and integration to OS, and the mass of stupid and lazy people who wouldn't download a product if the one they already have seem *nearly* as good.

Reporter: Sad, but hard to argue with history...

Yeah, this is probably the most disappointing announcement this year. Only works on XP SP2. It's a anti-spyware browswer. Wow.

It seems they are feeling the threat of Firefox and feel the need to release something "new" to everyone so that they stop losing marketshare.
