At least 80% of the employees do according to this Wired article. This isn’t surprising seeing how the majority of the mp3 players out there on the market are still playing catchup when it comes to the iPod. I am not one of those fanatics, even though I own one myself, it’s just that looking at the other mp3 players I don’t get that ‘ooooh, ahhhh’ type feeling like I do with the iPod.
And let’s admit, chicks love Apple products.
The source estimated 80 percent of Microsoft employees have a music player — that translates to 16,000 iPod users among the 25,000 who work at or near Microsoft’s corporate campus. “This irks the management team no end,” said the source.
It’s funny to see Microsoft management get so upset over this, but if they looked at their history they never really had a must-have item to sell. Heh, let’s just call Microsoft the Wal-Mart of the software industry (ouch, did I say that?).
I respect Microsoft, I just find it amusing that they wish to control everything (yeah Apple does as well pretty much).
UPDATE: Here is Scoble’s take on the situation. Gotta respect a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to admit it.
UPDATE2: Ah man this Wired guy is getting stomped in the blogosphere. Ed Bott and Paul Thurrott.
