So what can you do with 4 1gb iPod Shuffles, a USB 2.0 hub and way too much free time?
Stripe them together and create a RAID, of course.
My original intent was to actually install OS X on the RAID and boot from that, but the OS X (Panther, 10.3.5) Installer wouldn’t allow installation onto the RAID array, either as a Strip or Mirror set.
I am not really sure what good a 4gb RAID is, especially with only a USB 2.0 connection. But hey, to each his own.

You wouldnt get 4 gigs use out of it if its in mirror (2 gigs) and if you want to ensure that a single failier wont cost anything dont you do striping with parity? (I believe that eould leave 3 gigs)
I find it pretty meaningless to be using a RAID if your data won’t even become any more safe for the fact.
For $600 you’d spend on that setup, you could get like a 1tb Firewire drive… Hm….
yeah, like i said…not sure what purpose it would serve other than just a “cool” trick.
Anybody else notice that all VoltageNet sites are down, including shuffleipods4free.com? Been that way since last night as far as I can tell…
