Use chopsticks to open your mini

If you are one of the perhaps many concerned mini owners, who worry that using a putty knife to open your mini will damage it’s precious aluminum skin, worry no more.

This Chinese site has an excellent photo tutorial on how to open your mini, using modified bamboo chopsticks. The softness and tensile strength of the bamboo apparently make the food utensils a great tool for this and from what I can tell from the pictures, there is absolutely no damage to the mini whatsoever.

Read the full tutorial if you can (I suppose you could just jump right to the end). There’s a neat mod to the mini at the end, in the form of a cork covering that looks very professional. Not sure if we can get cork adhesive tape here in the U.S., at least that thin, but I might investigate the next time I’m at the craft store.

Here’s a whole new article.

…because if you happen to damage it, you could use

“a cork covering that looks very professional.”

Seriously, I wonder where I can find a *bamboo* chopstick. I’ve never even seen one before.

I’m betting a good Asian market would carry them. There’s a couple in my locale, so when it comes time to crack my mini open to add more memory, I’ll likely venture to find a pair or two.

I tried this chopstick thing; it did not work for me; and the fear of breaking things was way more prolonged than with a putty knife. My friend popped mine open with a butchers knife, which worked pretty well. A minute bit of scratching on the plastic; but otherwise quick and painless.

Though let me tell you, watching someone else approach your new mac mini with a butchers knife is about as far from comforting as I can imagine.

The Mac mini will be another flop for Apple. Anyone remember the “Cube”? Also I have never met a ‘Geek’ that has purchased a computer at starting price. The Mac mini starts at $499.00. Add a few options…and guess you just over paid for a smaller package.

Oh yeah it’s a flop all right. ha! The Mac mini is selling so well right now that Apple Stores are reporting that as many as 1 in every 3 Macs they sell these days are minis.
