What a great year it has been so far for small tech companies. All the search companies seem to be actively scooping up anyone they can find in order to one up the competition. The latest lucky bastard is Urchin, a Web analytics company.

Google says they are going to use the technology to help advertisers and website owners get a better feel for traffic and to help them increase their revenues. I am surprised by this purchase since Urchin was nothing more than web stats with pretty pictures for me and when used with a large number of sites on one server that server is gonna go down…hard.

Oh well, congratulations to the people at Urchin. Enjoy being rich.
