Halo 3 to KO PS3?
Tuesday, Mar. 1 2005 | Author: MacgyverIGN is reporting in their “Off the Record” article that Microsoft could possibly be pushing for a Halo 3 release date that coincides with the release of the Playstation 3.
From what we understand, Bungie is hard at work on, not so surprisingly, Halo 3, which will be ready day and date with the launch of PlayStation 3……… The release of Halo 3 at the precise launch of PS3 is a pure, military tactical move, similar to the PS2’s greatest lineup ever launching simultaneously with the launch of the Xbox and GameCube.
And that folks, is the reason, that monopolies are no good. There’s nothing like some good competition between companies to get them on the ball creating your favorite products a little quicker, and a little better. It’s sort of ironic that a product for Microsoft’s Xbox helps to show why monopolies are bad.

1I’m not convinced that this is an example of irony. I think replace “ironic” with “fitting” or just replace the last part “is sort of impossible to find any example where a microsoft product doesn’t demonstrate why monopolies are bad.”

2Monopoly? You’re joking, right? How, exactly, is releasing a competing product on the same day as your competetor a monopoly? Microsoft is by no means using their control to force Sony out of the market. Hell, they’re not even releasing the same sort of product on the same day. They’re simply presenting consumers with a choice and letting them decided which product (if not both) to spend money on.
I realize Microsoft engages in some monopolistic practices, but it seems particularly ignorant to argue that this is one of them.

3Yeah I have to agree with Brendan and Aaron on this one. This should hopefully only make Halo 3 that much better since they know what they have to go against. If anything Mr. Gates is using this as a motivating factor for Bungie to come out with a strong product.
And if you think Microsoft has a monopoly in the gaming industry well…

4I think you guys misunderstood what I was trying to say. I was saying this was a good thing and that it was probably making them work that much harder to make their products better.
As far as the monopoly thing goes, I was referring to Microsoft in general. I wasn’t relating that to their Xbox branch. Sorry for the misunderstanding guys ;)

9Hell yes, but PS2 geeks will still buy PS3, you can’t change that. Looks like Nintendo is out of the race too, seeing as how the GCN didnt even come close to the PS2 or XB in sales or game varitey, and the DS is gonna get its ass whopped by the PSP. PS3 intial sales will get seriously buffted by the sequal to one of the most popular console games in history, but it will sell extremly well anyways, since PS2 is a solid contender to Microsoft and the Xbox. Just wait for XB2 :-)

16I think That Halo 3 will KICK PS3’s ass Because Xbox has better graphics and has it’s on hardrive… And Halo 2 was a BIG hit.. I think that halo 3 will be the BEST GAME EVER. Also PS3 Doesn’t have many BIG BIG games. Only a few most of them are dark cloud and all those kinda games. And Xbox 1 was game of the year .. (not to mention it was the first xbox game ever made [ How could they possibly call it game of the year if no other games have ever been invented? :-P] )

17When Bungie make Halo 3 I think it’ll have to have to be at least twice as long as Halo 2. With the first half repelling the Covanent attack on Earth and then in the second half stopping the different Halo’s from firing their weapons. And taking the fight to the Covanent. I’m sick of everyone slagging off the end of Halo 2, it was made like it was as a cliff hanger so people would buy Halo 3 to see what happens in the end, its a marketing thing. And Bungie aren’t saying anything about producing Halo 3 as Microsoft probably wont announce that until the launch of Xbox 2 to let all the fans work them selves into a frenzy so they are desparate to buy it.

21If you pay attention, even the “making of” video on the Halo 2 Special Edition made it clear that Bungie didn’t get to “finish” Halo. And let’s face it, if you have a “cash cow” like Halo, you certainly are not going to not “milk it”. Everything I have heard, seen etc suggests that Halo 3 will not be updated that much as far as graphics but will be content-driven…we will see a few new weapons/vehicles. The storyline will be at least as long as Halo 2, if not longer. I have no doubt that Microsoft will do it’s utmost to get Halo 3
out as the first game for XBox2…and all the talk about Bungie working on “something” else is just plain misinformation to keep the competition guessing…in war it’s called “disinformation” and is used to misdirect your foes.

24The halo games are the best first person shooters ever, they’ve won loads of awards got lots of brilliant reviews from gaming experts, and they’ve solds both Halo CE and Halo 2 well over 10 million copies so i think that there will definately be a Halo 3. Every one thought the xbox would be flop, they were wrong xbox sold more systems than the gamecube, and this was heavily due to the huge popularity of Halo. Halo games are not boring, they have a compelling story line and brilliant gameplay and good graphics. As for PS2 selling more systems that because playstation was well established and had a big fan base already, where the xbox had to establish the base. Halo 3 i think will the the best halo game as it will be the Finale.

30ok… enough with the trash talking… the only reason someone would buy a ps3 is for… wait a minute… why the !@#$ would u buy it??? What games does it have to offer that xbox wont have? Xbox already has way better system then ps2 in its graphics and processor… have u ever noticed that u have to wait like a whole min for some little F@#$ map to load in a ps2 game. Halo 2 sold more copies then any other, and it was not even finished… it was a big fuck up online with the standby and shit but still has hundreds of thousands of people on at a time. There would be no way for the ps2 to handle any of the halo games even in single player. Only good game Ps3 has is San Andreas…. and xbox will be getting it soon. By the way the xenon(xbox 2) will still outmatch ps3’s pathedic system.

36i own a ps2 and an xbox. i have halo 1/2, and a bunch of ass-kickin titles for the playstation as well… and i think… the ps3 does NOT suck, in fact it will be great competition for the xenon, but seeing as gta probably wont have another sequel made… xbox will have all the major titles and slightly superior hardware. so… i think microsoft is eventually going to wear sony out the way nintendo is now running out of steam. im still gonna work my ass off to get both consoles, but… i think xbox 2 and halo 3 will be the biggest thing on the market in the next few years.

44I have heard that there is going to be a movie, but it probably won’t be for a long while. If it was being filmed, then there would be a lot of hype, so I’m guessing that it’s still being scripted rite now. Also, halo legend is a racist *&$^er.
Whoever said that nintendo is running out of steam needs to bear in mind that it’s developing a new console codenamed revolution. It won’t happen for quite some time and maybe it won’t be soon enough, but it’s getting a graphics and sound system to rival xbox!!!
Xenon will probably beat those capabilities tho, and will be released at about the same time… xenon is still a codename isn’t it? or is it the planned name? not sure…

54I’m not exactly sure why I’m posting this considering this article is nearly two months old but I figured I’d give my two cents for those who wander onto this article.
I have played Halo and Halo 2. I agree that they can be fun games but they are definitely not the best first person shooter. Timesplitters has my vote for best console based FPS while Half-Life/Counter-Strike has my vote for best PC FPS.
Also, it’s pointless to argue that one is going to be better than the other. If both release dates do coincide with each other, then I can guarantee the follow. Fans of Playstation will buy the PS3, fans of Halo will buy Halo 3 and then there will be those who buy both. Trying to compare a game to a console is like trying to compare apples and fetuses. =P
As for people saying the XBox has awesome graphic, I would like to add that Star Wars:KotOR looks terrible on the console as compared to my computer and I’m running the game on a 2.4GHz P4 and GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. Yeah, I know, I need a new computer. =/

nVidia is going to power the Sony’s PlaySation Graphics, ATi is goint to be on Xbox 2, The PS3 will come out AFTER the Xbox2, nVidia is the King of OpenGL, ATi Wins by 5 Frames :/ On DX9, and nVidia wins on OpenGL by 20 yo 40 Frames… :/, Im not a PS fan, I own an Xbox, but nVidia Owns ATi, with the new 6 series, nVidia has been whooping ATi’s ass even on DX9, The only game where nvidia looses is Half Life2, cus the Source Enginge was made on purpose for ATi, But OpenGL= Professional Graphics, DiRect3d= Shit, only meant for gaming. So, what do you want? Professional Graphics (OpenGL) or crappy MSIL core (With bad x86 compability) Direct3d (which is less realistic then OpenGL). Oooh yeah, the 5 fps which ATi’s beats nVida is Half Life 2 :/. So don’t post bullshit, Im not a PS Fan, and im not an Xbox fan, im a OPenGL Lover, Why? because my Life’s Work depends on OpenGL, Its the only High End i know, i use nvidias chips for my work, it sure owns the crapy FireGL which is only good for WireFrame Mode :D… ATi Sux. So next time, think about what you guys post, do some little research on the Console Specs, bur im not a console gamer, A pc will always OWN a crappy console.

56I personally felt a little sold short on Halo 2, in my eyes the game became a little too lateral and was far shorter than the first. Visually yes it was stunning the rendering was better and they threw in some good effects, but I didnt get the buzz out of it like did when i first got halo. Sure i suffered the same nervous antcipation like the first time round but once the disc was in and the feature length sequences were all done there was very little to keep me going back.
I love all the work bungie has done previously but despite what i have written i believe H1&2 are the best i have seen, but i also know that Bungie has a surprise in store for all the Halo and Non-halo fans out there. Yes Halo 3 is in the pipeline, but they will not announce it just yet for two reason’s:
* If no-one knows it’s in production they can release it when they like. they will not need to trucate timelines to get oit out by a previously printed date in which the content and quality will not be what it should.
* The competition are not expecting it and beleive that they have a larger lead time for the release of the game, enabling them to counter by Developing/releasing another mammoth game to the same schedule.
As a previous person said, it is all about disinformation and discrediting the opposition. SonyPS has the market currently, GTA certainly and Gran Turismo series are there big markets, if MS want to compete, then they must give nothing away and blow them out of the water with a string of great releases. XBox-2 (360/Xenon) with Halo 3 and FIfa 06. thats right november 05 is the release date – wtch out may 13th cos the gaming world will be rocked.

57Why is everyone saying Halo2 was the most selling game ever? Half-Life 2 kicks arse when it comes to sale figures.
Also, the XBOX is not really a console, its an automatic PC with hardware and software that run on the same technology as every PC. It has just been optimized for “idiot” use.
As for the PS3, since the technical stats are still in the stars, Sony will create a strong contender. On terms of sales, PS2 has outsold XBOX at least twice over. These are numbers based on fact and even for the XBOX a lot of MS Employees considered the project a flop, because more was invested than gained at the end of the day.
Sony has a strong contender against the XBOX. With its Final Fantasy Series, Gran Tourismo Series, Metal Gear Solid Series these are all strong games that eat a 5 hour ego shooter fun to the stars as litterally the PS2 offeres more gameplay time than most xbox, cube, pc games.

It laid the foundation for this coming round of console wars. I am an xbox fan through and through – but i believe sony will win due to the “allegence of fans” but now even these fans ask themselves “which do i want?”, pretty most any game that is brought out on Sony PS is released months later on Xbox – because it gives the developers/distributors a lerger margin in the US market.
I would slightly agree that game play on the PS is better (loosely) but with a Drct-X helping many PC games tranefer over making the gameplay in excess that the PS could ever offer, why? – as you say the xbox is a pc without a keyboard (yet).

65well you all have good points and all, but i have to go with xbox it is cool. i like hallo alot iv spent 100eds of hours on that game, but when you think about it they have to do a vary good thing to stay in the top video game space… gosh ps2 is good i like it, all of my friends have it i dont…. i have an xbox it is fun but they need neww games 4 xbox….#61 has a good head in this he knows wat he is talking about….but over all…..videogames r fun and that is all i want. ps2 or xbox if it is fun i will play it.

67I’ve read each of these postings and I must say that I’m impressed. You all do share a gaming passion. Starting this week, the stats on XBOX live are restarting and a few new maps are being uploaded to the system. I also understand that Bungie will continue to be updating the game. I’m beginning to get the notion that Halo 2 was simply a prtotype… a pacifier to keep both fans and competition at bay. at any rate I’ll have to say hands down that Halo 2 is the SH!T. byt the way how would you guys say is DOOM 3 in comparison to Halo 2. I’m talking online and in campaign. All XBOX Live ppl, my gamertag is Victor Spadez. Gt at me.

69im only gonna say one thing Playstation will never fall. As far as graphics the FMV’s off FFX and FFX-2 are amazing. And did anyone forget MGS snake eater was also a great game and realistically the backwards compatibility of the PS2 held it back but the emotion engine of the ps2 is far superior to anything I’ve delt with. And not to mention the fact the ps2 is running half the power of the x-box is also a big factor. And x-box did come out after the ps2. But newayz like i was saying for the stats of the Ps2 it holds its own more than enough. Plus the lack of good in depth games on the x-box is another thing. Ps2 has hundreds of titles. suprisingly half of them being good. And just cuz the x-box has a harddrive don’t mean jack ps2 has one too. but regardless were talking about quality not quantity. Mind you ps3 will rule no backward compatibility to hold it back maybe a processor in the giga hertz who knows all i know be prepared to be suprised.. …..

70Whilst i agree Sony have the market, they did not cater for the fact people wanted PC style games on consoles.
Not long after X-box came out, whole new genre’s of games came out for all console that previously were straight to PC games.
X-box brought about that revolution, there is no doubt that a lot has to be done yet for microsoft and the developers who are working soley for Microsoft if they want to perpaetuatate all this hardwork, whilst they built the online style gaming to what it is……(credit goes to sega)
Playstation this time around will struggle with the fan’s leaving in droves once the new release date is given for x-box 2, which as we all expect will be before PS3.
My mind also tells me people are more willing to have both consoles rather than have just the one. But lets be very clear. the XBOX 2 will out manouver and out perform the sony PS3 in every arena when released.
The King is dead – long live the Xbox.

76i have a ps2 and all my friends have and xbox except one. if you think about it Xbox kills Playstationits like Xbox vs Psone if you think logically and xbox 2 will kick ps2’s ass. there probably will be a xbox 3 and that will just kill every other compition
