There is no reason to have massive music collection and not have the ability to stream it out to every computer in the house. Here is a tutorial showing you how to setup a iTunes server on Linux so that you have such capabilities. I need to do this with my Linux box since I now have a laptop to walk around the house with.
Only crappy thing is that it requires the manual compilation of some packages, unless of course you have a cool distro that has an awesome package management tool (eg. Debian) then you should be home free.
If I ever get around to doing this I will let you know how it works out.

1Hm but can’t you just make your music available on the network?
That’s what I do and listen to all my music from the laptop.

2For some reason iTunes wasn’t picking up the music on his Linux server so he had to use the software he describes in the article to get it working. I have yet to try either way so I am not sure if he is just wasting his time or not.
If you are on an all Mac network then I am sure sharing becomes really easy and the same with Windows.
