Damn, if this isn’t an exciting year of competition for everyone! Yahoo buys Flickr. HP buys Snapfish. Google does what Yahoo does and refers to these as ’side projects’. Well now we are back to the desktop search phase of the game and Yahoo is updating their’s by allowing users to index both offline and online data.
Currently, users can only index the information contained within their Yahoo address book, but in the future links will be added between email, calendar, and photo album.
What we are seeing here is the seamless transition between an offline OS to a mixed-state OS (offline and online). Having this much information online though always leaves me a bit weary, but it’s the future and the future cannot be stopped.
Isn’t it exciting to see all the great technology news to come out this year has nothing to do with Microsoft? Poor guys just can’t innovate and their new IE7 doesn’t even do CSS2 right yet. For shame.
