Bionic Eye Will Let the Blind See

You knew it had to happen someday. Glad to see that day finally arrive.

It comprises a computer chip that sits in the back of the individual’s eye, linked up to a mini video camera built into glasses that they wear.

Images captured by the camera are beamed to the chip, which translates them into impulses that the brain can interpret.

I am very curious to see how the images would be interpreted by a blind person. Supposedly the images are still pretty basic, but this is a huge stride for people who aren’t able to see anything basic. Science does wonderful things sometimes.

I wonder if the chip is good enough that you will be able to hook up to higher res cameras in the future and instantly (or soon, once the brain gets used to it) take advantage.

it is still very unlikley that it will get to high res images as its not the camera that chooses the res, the silicone chip has to have the correct number of electrodes (100 so far) if you were to get even to normal computer screen size you would need to fit about 1500000 of them intohis chip that is practicaly tiny! i doubt this will happen for a long long time yet.
