Fifty million, that is. In just under 6 months, Firefox has been downloaded over 50 million times. That has got to be some new record for open source projects.

To commemorate the event, Mozilla has released a limited edition of Firefox 50 coins.

I wonder, are they counting downloads of the updates as well? How does that skew the overall statistic?

The 50 mil. is including updates.

What I wonder is if includes the nightly builds. That would *really* skew things.

  4. Norgus says:

Heh some person in Japan with his nice gigabit line probably downloaded it 20 million times for the heck of it. :P

  5. Justin says:

I read an official-ish response somewhere, either /. or Spread Firefox, that the count does not include the “auto” updates from within Firefox itself. Since only full releases are available on getfirefox (no updates/patches), its hard to tell who already had Fx but decided to download it off the website and not using the update tool.

  6. norgus says:

Well for most people the update tool doesnt usually work in providing automatic updates as far as a full next version is concerned.
