SearchEnterpriseLinux.com has posted an article about Firefox and how many users of the browser are frustrated by sites that only support IE.
It tells of companies that have made the switch from IE to Firefox, only to be pulled back into the evil grasp of IE by sites that only work in that browser.
I know in my own experinces I have only run across one or two sites that I cannot use with Firefox, mostly bank or bill-paying related sites (credit card companies, etc.). I sort of hit a double whammy sometimes because of the fact that I am a Firefox AND Mac user, and I am forced to fireup IE5/Mac on occasion.
Do you find it an annoyance that you sometimes have to use IE instead of Firefox for some sites, or have you ever even encountered a site that will not work in Firefox?

I still can’t get XM Radio Online (wma stream) to work with Firefox.
I am always annoyed when I have to fire up IE. If a site doesn’t support Firefox, and it isn’t absolutely necessary that I use it, I just don’t bother.
If online banking is the major concern concider Bank of America (if you are in the US) I have never even opened there site in IE and I have never had a problem.
WMA and WMV feeds on the other hand drive me up the wall. Why can’t they use the internet radio /TV function in winamp? Or bleeping let me just download it…

IE View – It adds “View page in Internet Explorer” option when you right click a link.
I occasionally find a site that is broken in Firefox, but not very often. Thankfully, I’ve never run into a site that I need that won’t work at all in Firefox. As a Linux user who doesn’t bother with WINE, my only option is to fire off a quick email to the webmaster and go on my merry way.
As long as the reason they’re not letting FireFox in isn’t because of ActiveX or some crazy IE only feature– most sites will work fine.
Spoof the user agent. Works for me and the PNC Merchant site that’s only IE. Get the extension here and pretend to be any browser you want:

Yes, I have to end up using IE every day here at work because the company I work for uses http://www.iemployee.com for online timesheets. All goes well in Firefox until I log in and try to actually click on ‘timesheets’. It refuses to play nice with Firefox. I may have to try out that extension hudson mentioned to see how it goes, though…
I get frustrated when I visit sites that require an ActiveX installation, only to find out that FireFox does not support such a feature.
It’s fair enough to say that ActiveX is quite dangerous if its in the hands of the wrong person. But on the same token its quite a step backwards to prevent all of them (with exception to Flash and Quicktime) from installing and executing. If this feature was implemented several years ago the internet would be a very different place.
We use a Java Client version of Peregrine ServiceCenter here at work for our Incident Management software and it has a terrible memory leak. We’re talking upwards of 200MB of virtual memory gone into some black hole somewhere after a few hours of use. A few of us covertly benchmarked firefox in an attempt to get it recognized at least as an alternative if not a standard (we’re deep in Microsoft’s pocket)
Suprisingly v1.0 actually performed worse and scarfed up more VM than IE did. I’m going to keep testing to see if the ever isolate the problem.

I think we are seeing less IE only sites these days. I cannot draw on any specific examples off the top of my head but it *feels* that way. In addition, I completely agree, it is annoying and uncalled for. This is compounded for those who know how easy it is to be cross-browser compliant.

I don’t know if it is a problem with Firefox, Real Player, or my OS X setup, but I can not get Firefox to play embedded RealPlayer Files.
Anyone having the same problem?

Then guess what… you’re just plain stupid! Only a complete idiot would do that… choose a bank over a stupid browser. Mozilla is trying to sell out, even harder than microsoft!
