UPDATE: Stupid ass me forgot to enable comments…
FG is looking to add some forums to our already kickass community so that the cool geeks can have a place to hangout. However, I am not too familiar with the forum software that is out there today. Internally we have been using phpBB, but I am not sure if that is the best choice.
This is what I am looking for:
Any suggestions?

1Read your forum tables post.
Everyone here is going to tell you [url=http://www.punbb.org/]punBB[/url]

2HAHA HAH AHAH AHHAHA
You got me in forum mode and I just used BB Code hahahaha
April 28th, 2005 at 9:33 pm
3haha, I saw that and was like huh? And I did take some of the advice from the Whitespace entry, but seeing how this is a different mix of people I figured it wouldn’t hurt for their opinion.
*note to everyone: bbcode does not work here :-)
April 28th, 2005 at 9:43 pm
4Well, I don’t think you’ll find a cleaner PHP based BB that meets your needs than punBB.
This is coming from a guy who doesn’t even use it in production.
Invision Board, vBulletin are both really ugly and difficult to skin. I run vBulletin on a very big site, and I curse it daily.
phpBB, well, you know the problems there.
punBB seems most suited to your style, IMO.
As for me, I’ll be writing my own software for my site when I’m done with the 43 other projects on my plate.

6Simple Machines has some followers but IMHO is a bit clumsy to work with.
phpBB is the devil. Except the devil is probably more secure.
Invision has too many (!) options.
If you think punBB (173kb tar) is lightweight, try miniBB (the core is a 1kb zip). It is built to be practically bare-bones; extra features are added with seperate add-on packs. By extra features I mean smilies, post preview, Who’s Online, etc. Hell, its so light it probably frees up space when you install it.
April 28th, 2005 at 10:10 pm
7My bad, 1kb is ridiculous. My filesize was being reported incorrectly. It still is smaller than punBB after all the addons.
April 28th, 2005 at 10:12 pm
8Haha, I figured 1kb was stretching it. Can’t get much done with 1kb if you are writing a forum package. That would take some mad skills or some horrible use of whitespace.
April 28th, 2005 at 10:27 pm
9Well, I’ve only had experience administrating phpBB and Invision Power Board forums (I liked IPB a lot better, it was much more customizible,) but there are plenty of decent ones around…check out http://www.opensourcecms.com/ for ideas. If you look on the left, there’s a tree navigator; hit the ‘forums’ folder and you’ll see a giant list of open source forum packages. On the opensourcecms website, a test forum installation is provided for each forum package in the list, and a test admin login and password are given so you can see what the Admin CP looks like.
Hope that helped.

10There is also MyBB from http://www.mybboard.com/
I was browsing through the vBulletin Forums last weekend, and some were saying it was a blatant rip/copy of vB, but after someone looked through the code, the found that it was indeed different. Someone said it was “inspired” by vB.
I personally haven’t looked throught it, but it looks pretty good for a free vB alternative if you don’t want to go with the usual phpBB.
Phorum is also nice, (http://phorum.org/).

12at least worth a look is the forum behind http://www.frenzyboard.com (and, alternately without the annoying green background, http://www.frenzyboard.com/clean), and http://www.didnotbitehuman.com/forum

I’m the forums administrator for the virtualcountries community of forums. It has around 30 country sites: from scotland, morocco and algeria to ukraine, russia and southafrica.
We relaunched southafrica.com about 2 months ago and we released it with vBulletin 3. Frankly its the best I’ve used. The control panel management system is incredible for user, thread and forums management. Its totally integratable with your own site. We applied out header, CSS and customized it to look exactly as we wanted it.
Definately worth a look. Mail me if you want a screen shot of the control panel.

14I prefer vB3, but as it’s not free…
I’d go with phBB for a good, free option (this is probably the most common forum software).
Great idea on the forums, BTW.
April 29th, 2005 at 5:41 am
15I’ll go with Chris.
http://bbpress.org/ is just fabulous ! Very well suited for a support forum at least.
Only drawback I see in your case : it doesn’t seem to handle private/public forum. And I don’t know about moderation. Although I know that post-moderation can be done.
But my question is : why a private/public forum ? I just hate when I’m required to register just to post a reply to someone asking for help/advice. I’ts not serving the community to make interactions even more delayed. I thought this was the all point of internet : instant access to pretty much everything.
April 29th, 2005 at 2:42 pm
16Romain: Requiring registration cuts down on spam. Although i HATE it when you have to wait on a verifictaion email and it doesnt come for 2 days. THATS JUST DUMB
April 29th, 2005 at 2:46 pm
17Cameron is right, it would be nice to allow you instant access into a forum, but spammers would just eat that up alive. If you want a quality community it’s better to only let in the few who are willing to wait a couple seconds to register.
April 29th, 2005 at 3:08 pm
18Yup. A simple registration is the way to go. Not only does it cut down on spam, but then you get to track your posts and whatnot. It’s loverly!
April 29th, 2005 at 4:56 pm
19Oh, and I like Phpbb2. I havent tried anything else, but in my experience, it’s proven pretty damn nice.
I applaud Scrivs for asking for ideas here. I suggest you install em all and then compare em before you decide on one or another.
I’m glad FG is going to have forums, and I will try to frequent them. Ever since Leoville Town Square went to the birds (read: Leo Fan Boys), I have been looking for a good forum to join. Most of em have jerks, zelots, spammers, general do-wrong’ers. I hope FG’s Forums won’t have these. I look forward to joining FG’s Forums!

58What is this?
- this is 5.5 mm (0.22 inch) width, 6.0 mm (0.24 inch) height and 9.6 mm (0.38 inch) long completely in ear canal wireless earpiece
This is the smallest size wireless radio receiver available in the world market today. It fits inside ear canal completely with almost double spare. Nobody can ever notice you have any ear piece watching directly at your ear from close distance. Nobody can ever hear any sound produced by the ear piece from the outside.
What is that for?
- communicate 100% invisible 2 way using Bluetooth cellular phone;
- listen to music crystal clear with either a Bluetooth player, or any usual wired player with 3.5 mm stereo jack;
- audio security, audio surveillance, exams cheat, cheating on test, spy technique…
What does it consist of?
- a micro ear unit inside your ear canal;
- a Bluetooth neck transmitter with sensitive to whisper microphone or a 3.5 mm stereo plug passive neck transmitter;
- an optional detachable buzzer button for the Bluetooth transmitter, when pressed, it produces a beep electronically, and is used for simple communication.

75Hi everybody
Just trapped on a little tool to slice website images.
Quick in preparing ready html from simple single-image site design.
Program is rather crappy and cheap (especially comparing to similar function in PhotoShop).
But there is a trick! Just look what books come as a bonus:
Search Engine Optimization: An Hour a Day
Web Design in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition
Webmaster in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition
etc…
I wonder how $270 priced books can be sold for just 20 dollars…
Anyway here’s link: http://www.sliceimage.com/
Hope these books will help you as well.
Regards,
Mark

Oh what I wouldn t give to have been a fly on the wall during this luncheon. Here is Heidi Montag having lunch with Meghan McCain, who is none other than the daughter of Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain. And yes, Heidi is boring as usual with her straight blonde locks that never change. Meghan of course does not have the most inspiring hairstyle, but when your dad is running for President of the United States, fading into the background is much more requisite than standing out amongst the crowd. Heidi dressed as conservative as even she could I suppose, and styled her hair in the same boring style with the flat iron and the side part. One would think that if you are somewhat of a starlet and are going to be seen with the daughter of a Presidential candidate you might make more of an effort. However, maybe Heidi doesn t even understand the whole Presidential thing who knows! Shake it up Heidi! Her hairstyle is getting as about as boring as her storyline.
Welcome to the Hairstyles Top. Here you will find the latest top hair style pictures, and advice for new hairstyles: men’s hairstyles, teen hairstyles, curly hairstyles and sedu hairstyles, etc. Lots of celebrity haircuts.

78Good Day
Just wanted to share my new experience.
If your Windows XP denies to run due to an error corresponding to missing HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other critical system boot files you can repair this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then run “attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file and remove it. Run “Bootcfg /Rebuild” and then Fixboot
Regards,
Carl

89Hi!
I’m looking for a LDS online dating site. I haven’t been able to find many. I’ve found some christian dating sites,
but I was wondering if there were any sites that were geared towards Later Day Saints religion. It’s hard to
find a lot of other LDS online daters wanting to chat – at least, I haven’t been able to. Does anyone know of any?
Like I said, I’ve tried some christian ones, but not really what I’m looking for. I really hope they’re out there!
If not a dating site, perhaps any type of chat or group related to LDS.
thanks!
