A WEST NYACK, N.Y. MAN was found dead at his computer apparently the victim of trying to keep up with too many professional forums. Childress H. Wanamaker, 54, an account executive at a New York-based new media company, died of starvation according to the West Nyack coroner’s office. Wanamaker’s emaciated body was found by Loraine, his wife of 26 years, who told MediaPost she had been bringing her husband meals on plastic trays for weeks, but that he never took the time to eat them.
…
They also found that he posted a comment into one forum or another on an average of two per minute every hour of the day for the past seven weeks.
That comes out to 141,120 comments in a 7 week span. That’s insane.
As someone who runs a couple of sites I can attest to the great feeling one can get from a very active community. It’s always nice to see discussions sprout up with intelligent or just downright funny commentary. But never do I want to see someone commenting at the risk of their own health.
So my advice is to read the article, go get a PopTart and come back to read some more FG.

We received word last night that a 27 year old member of one of my sites had a heart attack and passed away at his work desk on Wednesday. His account shows he was active at the time.
Scary.
Maybe I should rethink that forum idea…
I’m thinking about having accounts auto-ban for 60 minutes a day every day with a redirect to excercise tips. Heh.
This is just unbelievable. 27 years old. Two other members under 30 were diagnosed with cancer this year. Forums are bad for your health.
Man dies from not eating.
Hmm? Silly people who fail to priorities are the problem, not forums.
I’m hungry…
Aka, we were half joking :)
And I thought MY Internet addiction was bad…
i’m hungary too

Dude, he’s an active community all by himself. 141k comments in 7 weeks is probably more than the whole 9-rules network!
I get hungry all the time when I’m using the computer. Worse time was with X-COM. After a while it goes away, so I didn’t have to eat for a whole day. Saves money, too.
Blogger seems to think it’s a joke
