Opera is running a cool affiliate program that lets you get a free license and support for promoting their browser. Once you sign up for the program, just place an Opera banner on your site. Once Opera logs 250 referrals from your site they will e-mail you a free copy of the software.

1Smart move, but getting 250 referrals can prove complicated for some users. I’d still rather refer 250 people to Firefox and not have to worry about getting a “free copy” of a web browser.

2250 should be easy for me, but I agree, that’s a pretty high number, especially for the common blogger just wanting to try out Opera without the ad banners. Interesting marketting tactic, though. While I agree that it’d be better to encourage people to try Firefox, if it gets people to like Opera, then that’s more away from IE, and more towards standards-compliant browsers.

3I’d prefer to have Opera give you a free copy after you’ve paid your fee in money they’ve made from your Google ads.
That would be a good idea, IMO.
