PookMail.com: Disposable Email Account System

So the site seems a little shady, but you have to cough up an email address to see the new Batman trailer. Or maybe you just want to read the NY Times online (and we all know they are blameless in the spamming department), but, of course, there’s a registration required. For some situations, BugMeNot is a good solution. Now there’s another one: PookMail.com.

PookMail.com provides a disposable email address. You make up a great email address using @pookmail.com, give that email address to the would be spammer, log in and get your registration or confirmation email, and the account is cleaned out of the PookMail.com system after twenty-four hours.

Why not just get a permanent g-mail junk address. You get to avoid the hassle of setting up and remembering a string of addresses, and just pluck out what you want from the account while holding your nose? am i missing something?

With PookMail.com, you’re not really setting up an account. You make up an address, but there’s not really an account behind it. You don’t have PookMail log in information. You just enter your made up address to see if there’s any mail (i.e. a confirmation email, etc). Then the so-called “account” is gone in 24 hours. This way, you never have to deal with the spam at all.

But, the idea of setting up a junk address at Yahoo! or Gmail is valid as well. It all depends on personal preference.

Another one you might want to consider is spambob.com

They offer temporary email addresses ending in:

.com
.org
.net

…depending on whether you want Spambob to just trash the mail it receives, allow it to be accessed through its web interface, or redirect it to an address of your choice.

THis just means it wont be long before @pookmail and simmilar service addresses will get rejected by signup pages and we’ll all be back to the regular spam account/bugmenot solution.

papernapkin.net has a different approach to junk addresses – it helps you send a cruel response outlining why you gave (whoever) a fake e-mail, but obviously it can’t be used for sign-ups.
