Yeah, I know crazy title, but I am working on 4 hours sleep and am feeling a little frisky this morning. I came across this thread over at the Red Hat People blog and the funny stuff has nothing to do with the entry itself. The entry talks about security or something, I don’t know because I didn’t read it. The fun begins in the very first comment:
I am bemused to note that you use closed source Movable Type as your blog software rather than an Open Source alternative such as WordPress.
p0wned! But wait support is near, as near as the next comment:
Please put down the drink professor.
Things go back and forth about how a company that advocates the use of Open Source software is more than able to use commercial software for their own purposes. Fair enough. If they have the money and they don’t mind spending it, then spend it I suppose. The good stuff happens when my friend Anil Dash (who seems to know every damn thread on the web that involves MT) from SixApart fame steps in and offers his words of wisdom:
And since the issue’s been raised, this statement is false: “In any case, with the release of WordPress 1.5.1 – WordPress has far exceeded MT in terms of security and comment spam prevention.”
So what happens next? In the very next comment you get Incest Comment Spam! Of course this isn’t Anil’s fault, but Red Hat’s fault for not using the all-powerful Blacklist, but I mean it’s just too damn funny. Don’t worry Anil, I use MT (not for everything), and understand the importance of staying on top of things. You can comment on my sites any time without being followed by the people of incest (can’t guarantee the Poker people won’t be around the corner waiting for you thought).
And don’t turn this into a WordPress handles spam better than MT thread. There are plenty of those around the web. Let’s just enjoy the humor for once.

Funny.
Anil’s tendency to pop up when discussion of MT gets going borders on the unheimlich, though – I posted two links to pieces about switching from MT to WP, and in a few short hours, there he was asking what was making me think about switching. (This would make sense if anyone actually read my site, but since they don’t… spooky magic. Or, you know, Technorati.)
I wouldn’t be surprised if he popped up in here when he wakes up. Of course we aren’t bashing MT or anything so who knows, but oh man that would be funny.
Someone mention Blacklist?? ;-)
Anyway, yeah, that weblog spam. Always great for MT humor. We’re planning on making t-shirts actually…
I hope the spammers are enjoying it while they can…
Man we ask for THE Anil Dash and we get Jay Allen? Isn’t he like the lowest person on the 6A food chain or something? Better send Mena over or I am switching to PHPNuke.
:-P
I’d respond to that Scrivs, but honestly, I’m too busy managing the future of Movable Type. Besides, I have to vaccuum Ben’s office.
(P.S. By the way, can we get an mpg of your Kick! celebratory dance? ;-)
Hell I wish I had an mpg of that as well…of course I do that kind of stuff 4-5 times a week so it wouldn’t look that cool to me. I am surprised to see that Anil and Mena even let Ben have an office. So many things I am learning about 6A today that it’s fascinating.
Next thing you will tell me is that you guys secretly use TextPattern internally.
No, we use LiveMovableTypeKeyPadJournal which is an unreleased product I can’t really talk about right now… Shhhh.
I knew there was something fishy going in there. Thanks for the update Jay. Sign me up for beta testing whenever the product is ready.
