More evidence is mounting that the XBox 360 will be backward compatible. The Inquirer reports that an online survey being taken by XBox Live users helps to confirm this.
The questionnaire deals with Xbox Live and says subscribers through the original Xbox will be able to play against gamers on Xbox 2 — as long as they are playing a current generation Xbox game.
I certainly hope that this is the case. It wouldn’t make sense to release a new game system a year after the biggest title in the history of Xbox (Halo2) was released, and not give gamers the ability to play that game on the new system.
One good thing that is for certain is that you will be able to play on XBox Live regardless of your system, and there will not be two seperate groups.

It sounds like they are just saying that you can play against people through Xbox Live. So, if you have the same game on both systems, you will be able to play against each other. Nothing there really states that you will be able to run an Xbox game on the new system.
From TFA: “If you are playing an Xbox game on Live you will be able to compete against people playing that same game on Xbox 2.”
Seems pretty clear to me.
One would hope Microsoft would take at least that cue from the Sony.
Another that is less likely it to focus on making good connections with the powerfull developers.
3 good non-spots non-PC port games is not enough to justify a console for me. (though I do own one…)
The above is strictly my opinion.
another think to think about is all the files on the xbox if they can be transferd to the xbox 360
does anybody have any idea what xbox games will be backward compatible with the 360
xbox. I was wondering because I have heard different things like only the top selling games can be played on the 360. I have Fable and Wolfenstein. They might be compatible, but I’m not sure. If anybody has any information about the games that will be backward compatible with the 360, e-mail me at massie_s18@hotmail.com
