Before I really started using RSS like I do now (250+ feeds and growing), I used blo.gs to keep track of when the blogs I read were updated.
Well, Blo.gs has been sold to an unnamed individual and will transfer ownership, including account information and user data, sometime on or around June 13.
According to the current owner, the site will continue providing the same service with some improvements. The current privacy policy will also stay intact.
I’m sorry i can’t yet say who it is that will be acquiring blo.gs, but i can pass on the assurance that there will be no change in the privacy policy when they acquire the service and registered users will be given the opportunity to consent to any future change.
They plan to continue providing the same features that exist now, and will be working on making blo.gs even better. the new owners will be in touch shortly after they’ve taken over the service next month.
If you have an account there and don’t want your user data transferred to this unknown person/company, make a backup of your list (export XML) and delete your account. I have already noticed the number of users drop by about 200 or so since the announcement.
Besides, after the transfer of ownership, if everything seems to be on the up and up, it is easy to re-create your account and re-import your list.

1I do wonder about the price since it was basically an open source project with a website.

4Knowing how many very significant players put very significant bids in, and how many of them have said they did not get it, I’m very curious to see who the lucky winner is.
Some of the offers that were turned down right away were quite amazing. I’m intrigued…

5Also that message is very weird, what kind of prospective buyer would agree to such a message before the sale? It feeds the fire.
Bad PR.
