Not sure how many in the FG nation use IE on a regular basis, much less to browse XML files, but the folks over at the IEBlog have confirmed an issue that was being reported after installing Netscape 8.
Apparently, if you try to browse to an XML file, such as an RSS feed for an XML file with an XSLT transformation applied to it, using IE, you will get a blank page rather than the data.
Although they do not say what exactly causes it, they have posted a work around until the issue can be resolved better.
- Uninstall Netscape 8
- START->RUN
- Type: regedit
- Hit ENTER
- Navigate to the following:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension
- Highlight and right-click the node titled “xml” and select delete.
- Restart Internet Explorer
It just keeps getting better and better! It may be a valid problem, but the conspiracy theorist in me can’t help wondering.
1. This problem was never reported during beta.
2. They *discover* this problem in… well, well, Microsoft’s IE Blog.
3. (this is the good part) They recommend that you uninstall Netscape.
Easier solution to this would be to stick with Netscape until you run into this problem, and if you do, switch to Firefox mode by clicking a single button: gecko xml parser will read the damn page. Oh yeah, that was IE blog.
Yeah, I thought the solution was fishy. Uninstall IE, reverse-engineer Netscape to take the IE engine out of it, and everything’s dandy!

replace explorer.exe with quake3.exe
