Earlier today, Sony officially unveiled their next-generation Playstation console, the PS3.
From all appearances, the console is very similar in size to the PS2, with a bit more of a rounded look. It will also be available in 3 colors: silver, black and white.
The also talked about the new processor technology they are using, which is the cell processor, and how it will offer movie-like realism in future games.
The PS3 will use the Blu-ray disc format, capable of holding 50 gigabytes of information, which is about six times the capacity of existing DVDs, as well as slots for memory cards, a detachable hard drive and Bluetooth wireless for up to seven wireless controllers.
The PS3 also will be able to run the thousands of games available for the older PS2 and PS1, officials said.
On Tuesday, we can expect to hear more from Nintendo about their next-generation console, the Nintendo Revolution.

2People usually get the wrong impression of wireless products, sure you have to buy batteries for them, but for example, my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer is wireless and I have to replace the batteries every 4 or 5 months. And I use it regularly, for shoot-em-ups and whatever.
And since a mouse has to update the info everytime you move it a little inch and it always has a little red led on I don’t think the batteries will be a big problem.
You can always get battery rechargers for like 10 bucks and a pair of rechargeable batteries and you’re pretty much settled “forever”.
Besides, you’ll be thanking Sony soon enough when you don’t have to unwind 3 meters of wires everytime you turn on your console, just grab the controler, turn it on and play away.

3I thought I read in one of the news stories that the batteries in the PS3 controller would last for “24 hours of continuous use before recharging”.

5Ooh, i like the design they have for the Ps3, its going great. But how much have they priced it at? hopefully its not more than 500$ cuz that might be too much. The other thing that i like about it is the look of it. BUT what i dont like is that Sony and all the other Next generation systems are coming out a little too fast, but thats what i think, not know. I’m not sating that i dont like though, and i have to admit, i as getting tired of the graphics for the systems of the ps2 and Xbox…

11From a product designers point of view, having a wireless conroler is balls. The controle should have some form of plug in were it becomes chargable. It is going to be a pain in the a..s having this new controle. I also prefere the original pad, it worked well and was ergonomically friendly.
