If you happen to live in or around Birmingham, Alabama, then you know about Vulcan Park. Sitting atop Red Mountain and overlooking downtown, Vulcan is visible from just about everywhere in the downtown Birmingham area.
This Friday, May 13, Vulcan Park is going wireless, providing one of the largest and high-profile hotspots in the southeast. Best of all, thanks to a grant from Cisco, wireless access in the park will be absolutely free.
If you happen to live in or will be in Birmingham on May 13, make your way up to Vulcan park for lunch and the official announcement of the wireless hotspot being open.
Are there any parks in your area that have wireless access? How often do you make use of it?

1My local cable company is implementing some Wifi hotspots in major shopping centers and some key tourist areas, however, I still can’t connect with it with my laptop.
I’ve tried looking for a good Wifi troubleshooting guide on the internet but have failed to find one.

2Yeah…me too.
For a while here, there was a company that was advertising wireless ‘net access, and they were working on creating a blanket of hotspots to allow, I believe, 802.11 access anywhere in the area.
Any other companies, or startups, doing this?
