I think it was because of the nvidia-driver. HL2 is only playable under linux by using an Emulator like wine. So I don't think HL2 under linux got a good performance (or a better than windows). But if I want to play D3, Quake4 or Neverwinter Nights I play them under Linux, because it's easy installed and give myself a nice dream from a better OS-World.
