I have been trying for quite some time to upgrade my DSL subscription to 6.0 mbps and am told that it is not available at my
address, though 3.0 works very well. Just a bit ago I saw that a limitation is that one must be within 3.5 miles of the Bellsouth office by road, and I am within that distance. I am getting really annoyed that the 6.0 is not made available to me, especially since it is advertised online in this area. its tempting to go with Comcast but I don’t want to have to change my address.

Our max here in NL is 20Mbit. 6 is becoming standard here :D

Welcome to the future, but until you have 20mbit it’s not really broadband (hassle them about Adsl 2+).

What’s so extreme about 6MBps? I’ve been on 10MBps for years(RCN NY).

In a related news, the town of boondoxx AK went extreme with 14.4k z-modem connection.

If they make this happen before my cable provider I may very well have to move away from Vonage back to Ma Bell. FWIW, at least one of the cable companies has been doing 5 megabit for months now in select markets (see the forums at dslreports.com for more info). Always good to hear about progress,though.
