AMD produces nice chips...but they just aren't big enough to guarentee they will be around for years to come. Apple went the safe route here and it makes perfect sense to me. After all, if I had to put my customers through a change as big as this, you want to make sure there isn't a problem in the future related to supply. Not only are the speeds very comparable, but AMD currently has the edge in 64-bit and they are cheaper. All this will do is keep Apple's prices high for any decent machine you try to get from them.
