Laptops outselling desktops in the US

Research firm Current Analysis is reporting that laptop sales now account for over 53% of the total personal computer market last month. This isn’t that surprising if you look at the pace of new technology features found in laptops compared to that of desktops. Speed boosts in desktops over the last 2 years has been minimal at best, while laptops have been adding new wireless, bluetooth and graphical features at a rapid pace. Add with that the “desktop replacement” category of laptops and you have yourself a takeover.

Mostly everyone I know has a desktop computer, but not a laptop so I think that also contributes to this fact.

Do these figures include desktops that are bought from parts and custom assembled? Does it include online stores that custom assemble desktops for you?

and finally, would this make a big difference to the figures?

I don’t think Laptops will ‘take over’ the desktop market, many people have a laptop as well as their desktop. People such as myself don’t have a need for a laptop (extra cost, still lesser components due to size restrictions, poor screen in general, poor input in general)

I feel laptops are a seperate market entierly for most people. I hope people don’t buy laptops as a replacement for a desktop that always sits on the desk. Seems to be very impracticle.

I do just that, in part, because I enjoy the portability and, in part, because I’m not a big upgrader. But then, my needs aren’t great, either. It’s not for everybody.

This should realy come as no supprise to anyone in the Computer sales feild. People wnat laptops, and the prices have been coming down to mach desktops in a lot of ways.
